Vitamin B12 deficiency after a decompression surgery

One year after my sugery i ended up with PA. So recently began my vitamin B12 injections. Now on my fourth weekly shots. At the begining i didn't seem to experience any change but instead i was more constantly nervous with brain fog. I can now begin to experience less of the symptoms slowly.

I guess my shots will be life time but i am happy it's helping.

Yes, at the beginning of treatment you can often feel somewhat worse before you get better . I guess that you are in the U.S.A. , as you have weekly shots to start with . Here in the U.K. , we get a “loading dose “ of 6 injections over 2 weeks , then an injection every. 2 or 3 months .Yes, your injections will be for life . I expect that your doctor has told you to make sure you have plenty of folate in your diet , or take a supplement of a folic acid tablet . Folate and folic acid are both vitamin B9 , which works together with B12 .

Best wishes .

Just out of curiosity Brownsugar3 , are B12 ampoules obtainable “ over the counter” in Switzerland ?O.T.C. In the U.K. , they are prescription only . This causes problems for patients with P.A. who find that even a 2 monthly injection fails to keep P.A. symptoms at bay . We are forced then to self inject ,as our doctors will not allow us any extra injections . We can obtain our ampoules from certain online German pharmacies . As you know , P.A. patients have to have B12 injections for life .

Unfortunately it's only by prescription here in Switzerland Wedgewood. Incase in the future it will be complicated to keep up with the symptoms and prescribed injection. I will have no option but to look for other ulternatives like aelf injections.

The following German online pharmacies will supply you with Rotexmedica B12 depot ampoules ( which is Hydroxocobamalin) if you ever need to self-inject .

You may not need them of course 🤞.

I'm pleased it's helping.

I'm really grateful to you for posting your experience as I believe that the UK's protocol if 6 injections in 3 weeks is flawed and that weekly injections are more gentle on your system so produce better outcomes long term, even though it takes a big longer to get initial signs of improvement.

It would be interesting to hear how you are long term.

Best wishes to you!
