pernicious anemia and altered sensation

hi all!

i have hypothyroidism (most likely hashis, runs in the family) and my doctor thinks i may have low b12 due to my systems and “it being affected by the autoimmune system”. i feel like she suspects PA, do you agree?

i have had a sore tongue. my finger started feeling partially numb (feels like when your foot is asleep and you touch it) and over the weeks it spread to my whole body. i’m pretty scared but if it’s PA can this be reversed? or at least stopped from getting worse?

any insights are welcome and appreciated.

So has your G.p done sa serum b12 test along with your bloods including folate vitamin d ferritin ect

Also intriscic factor antibody test

Then if an absorption problem and b12 tablets wont

work.

Thd regime in the UK is y injections over 2 weeks (loading doses)

Then if neurologicdk problems every other day until no further improvement.

Then 2 monthly.

Repair can be done.

Hope your bloods have been done si tou csn get treatment if needed asap.

thank you for your help! i’m not sure, she is definitely testing b12 and has previously checked me for iron deficiency anemia. i haven’t gotten the results yet and will ask for them when i pop by next time.

if the results are low should i ask for an intrinsic factor antibody test? or is the treatment basically going to be the same either way, whether it’s PA or something else?

thank you for your well wishes!!!

Yes treatment is usually the same if low b12 and not able to br treated with tablets. Its usual practice for the Intrinic factor antybody test to be done. If its negative doesnt mean you haven't PA. It is reliable if positive.

Get a point off of blood results . Always good for your reference.

If it is nerve damage from PA then it might be reversed - if it is treated without delay.

Get your doc to start you on a course of injections.
