Eating at work

I am new to this,I work at a blue collar work place. My body has not been handling it well. I have gotten one strained hand and back damage ( also from a car accident) my hope is to go back to teaching. But it might be a while till I can teach again. The one huge thing I worry about is my dizzy spells. I have to drink water every time I get off on a break. An eat when I am on breaks to avoid it. But the cons to this is that I am constantly going to the bathroom. An people are getting irritated that I have to take my breaks. I haven’t told my boss and I don’t want to tell him in case it gets worse. But without eating my blood doesn’t get any oxygen, my eyes get blurry ( which is not good I am blind as a bat already), and it is hard to breath. I had only one incident and let only a little bit of people about this problem. What should I do if this I have another incident like this? An I can’t excuse it on heat stress. I am really really scared what would happen if my boss found out.

If you were a diabetic you need ti eat on time test your blood sugar ect. Work have to accommodate this. If you have a diagnosis of PA just say why you need thd breaks. Otherwise you will get stressed and more ill.

Be Honest talk to your boss you need to for Safety. I’ll tell you why. My Daughter started a new job last February she had filled the health form in for work saying she had Asthma but she never told any of the staff she worked with in the office. She started to get Breathless and ending up telling one of the staff she was having Asthma attack. She was lucky I was informed and an Ambulance called. Do not Risk your Heath please speak with your boss.

Hi,

If you find the idea of talking to your employer stressful, do you have a union rep you can talk to first?

Have you talked to PAS if you're a PAS member? They might have useful info.

I live in the United States and we don’t have unions normally in the south. I don’t know why.. but we don’t it is really a pain.

People do not need to be diabetic to become hypoglycemic/ low blood sugar. There are medical reasons that some people suffer from episodes of low blood sugar. I would see a doctor and find out if this could be the reason you become dizzy and short of breath. It sounds like you had a hypoglycemic episode. I am not a doctor. Look hypoglycemia up on the web, if that sounds like you, see a doctor. Your doctor would be able to give you a slip that you must eat and drink when these symptoms occur. Please see your doctor he will be able to help you. Best of luck to you.

Thanks I haven’t gone to the doctor yet about this. But I did look up that symptoms of perniciousness anemia is dizziness, shortness of breath, and blurred vision. But I will look into it this when I get my blood work done. I am new to this but these symptoms have been prolonged since I was little. Even my elementary school teachers thought I had asthma but then it was placed as allergies, then the dizziness spells started around high school, and finally I got a blood test that I have pernicious anemia last year. Which explained a lot... because I have all the symptoms and it is hereditary in the family ( that I did not know about)

You know your situation best. It was just that I did not understand what having to eat to keep the symptoms away had to do with pernicious anemia. I am sure between you and your doctor, you will figure out what is going on and how best to control it. Your doctor should be able to help you with your supervisors at work also, as you have a medical condition, and are being treated by a doctor. They can not hold that against you. I hope you find the answers and that you will soon be able to return to teaching because you are feeling better. God bless.
