PA and flu.

Hi all. I have Autoimmune PA and autoimmune hypothyroidism. I am suffering badly from flu and can't seem to get any relief.

Does anyone have any remedies that work please. I had my flu jab on the 7th October. And have gradually felt unwell, and now have full blown really bad flu.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you.

There is no cure for the flu, apart from bed rest, fluids and time.

Follow the advice here - nhs.uk/conditions/flu/

Unfortunately flu on top of an ongoing condition will be worse for you. It will run its course as viruses do.

If someone can make it for you homemade chicken broth made with the bones really helps cold and flu symptoms. You can add all sorts to make it different. Miso. Garlic. Veg ect. It will freeze also. It's a Jewish tradition and has now been scientifically backed up.

Lots of fluids rest and pain relief.

Rotten. Hope you feeling a bit better very soon.

Thank you.

usual caveats of I am not a doctor etc...

I started taking echinacea about 20 years ago and IME it works (YMMV) I take it for 3 months during the winter to boost my immune system and in that time I only had 1 flu.

I've had the flu jab twice and gotten a terrible flu afterwards (didn't take the echinacea) so I went back on the echinacea again.

You can take it when you already have the flu there is a flu version it alleviates the symptoms

Thank you. I am also taking Echinacea for colds and flu, only started it after my flu though.

I am not going to have flu jabs again. I feel awful.

As other says there isn't actually any cure for flu.

I would suggest that you make an appointment to see the GP as the flu jab was quite some time ago and the way you are feeling is unlikely to be anything to do with the flu jab.

People can sometimes get a mild fever from a flu jab but it should only last a day or two.

The flu virus mutates very quickly so new strains develop all the time. The jab will only protect you from specific strains, so if you have a different strain it won't protect you. The treatment for flu is rest and keeping your fluid intake up to ensure you don't become dehydrated.

If you have flu proper then it is unlikely you would really be able to do much beyond rest anyway - so may be that you have another flu-like virus.

Advice is not to see GP if you think you may have flu. Because you’ll be infecting other patients and staff.

Call 111.

Keep up with B12 and supplements like folic acid and a daily multivitamin to keep your B12D weakened metabolism functioning. I take extra Methyl B12 sublinguals to fill in between injections.

Also gargle with 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar in warm water to kill any bacteria in the throat. Old home remedy that tastes terrible and probably does nothing against a virus. Some drink this to ward off a cold.

Thank you, I will try the vinegar, that makes sense.

Sorry you've been feeling awful.

When I'm down with any virus, I use the usual otc meds for symptom relief as needed. (Decongestants, pain relievers, etc.)

I also use complementary things, like lots of vitamin c. I also make sure to get enough vitamin d (I take this often through the colder months, but more of I'm feeling ill at all). I use teas and lozenges of elderberry, Echinacea and zinc. I use a lot of fresh garlic when sick. Usually I'll chop A lot of it up with some fresh ginger into fresh chicken broth. A heating pad for any aches. For respiratory symptoms, I'll add a few drops of eucalyptus oil to a steaming pot of water and put a towel over my head to breathe in the vapors (always careful that the steam isn't too close that it will burn airways). I also put some drops of the oil on top of the faucet and a few drops on the tiles before a shower so that I'm getting some a good steam while I shower. I use a magnesium cream lotion on achy muscles. Pretty much I just pamper myself as much as I can with all of the things that are claimed to be helpful. Maybe they are effective, but just doing good things for myself to help keep me relaxed and comfortable to help speed up healing. Being sick really saps a lot of things from your body, so I do everything I can to replenish so my body has what it needs to fight. I usually do extra b12 injections as well.

If you've been getting worse after already feeling ill, it might be worth getting checked out by a Dr. It's not uncommon for flu to turn into pneumonia and for that, you may need some antibiotics and maybe steroids.

Take care ❤

Thank you, really good advice. Also I have a B12 spare injection I was thinking of doing. But I have never done one before. It's in a 1no glass bottle which I will have to break. But I feel so bad, I really want to try it.

Statesider, i got offered a pneumonia jab when i went for my B12 injection, i didnt even know there was a injection to prevent you from it.

So Mannequin18 it might be worth mentioning it to your dr if you can manage to get to see him as i know how bad flu can be. I wish you well and recover soon

Thank you. I had the pneumonia jab a couple of years ago, so I should be protected. But I will never have the flu jab again.

I have to have it with being diabetic. But before i was diabetic i never went for it as i know of a few instances where its made someone really poorly, and also my Grans neighbour passed away after having it.

Hi, can I ask you why you had the flu jab with such a compromised health situation?

Unless you have shares in big Pharma, perhaps it was your GP who encouraged you to take the shot?

Read the article on thebmj https:/doi.org/10.1136/bmj.k15

and the article 'Why I'm not getting the flu shot' philmaffetone.com

The gov.uk site has a vaccine damage/side effects/ reporting structure. Your GP should report your condition and give you a copy, otherwise the 'safe flu shot' paradigm will continue.

Interestingly only 40% of NHS staff in Scotland have had the flu shot!

Wishing you well. x

Totally agree CatrionaNason My doc was pressing for flu shot so I asked if she had had hers........she hadn’t and responded touché.

Thank you. Yes I am always encouraged to take. But that is the last one I ever have. Also I am reluctant to go to the dentist again after witnessing appalling hygiene.

I refused mine. I’ve also found that if my B12 is low I feel as if I have ‘flu and it takes a while to shift. Lots of good advice for our immune system on here x

Sticking my neck out, but it’s unlikely to be flu, just another virus. Actual flu is totally debilitating and can kill if you e a suppressed immune system. I had it twice in my lifetime and would not have been able to use the Internet etc. Prob just a bad cold, which will go 😉

Yes I agree, I couldn’t lift a cup or walk when I had flu twice in my life.

Same here Lurcher lady, ive had flu 3 times, and was flattened by it, i couldnt move unless it was to get to a pot id put in my room save going to the toilet. A good four/five days before i came out of semi consciousness and could eventually function properly. Only thing ive had worse is gastric flu when a child, my goodness now that is bad lol, the flu with the sickness and diarrehea.
