I am hoping someone can shed some light on which antibiotics we can have and which ones to avoid. Thank you πŸ™πŸ»

I'm not sure I can find evidence that any antibiotics should be avoided. Indeed, several sources suggest that B12 absorption when due to H. pylori infection, or SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) can be improved by antibiotics. watermark.silverchair.com/z...

Of course, for anybody injecting B12 absorption is irrelevant.

Trimethoprim locks up folate and may disrupt the absorbtion / metabolism of it for some time afterwards too so that even extra supplementation does not solve the problem.

Hello ! I had an extremely bad reaction to Bactrim.

Certain antibiotics cause neuropathy, cipro, levaquin, bactrim are some i remember. I didnt know about Bactrim when i took it and it made my existing neuropathy unbearable. It went to emergency clinic for bladder infection, explained i had neuropathy. It seemed he did not believe me because ive never had tests or medical drugs for it.

The internet will give you all the information if you do a search on dangerous antibiotics, or antibiotics that cause neuropathy, or antibiotic side effects. I would search out all of it.

Good luck !

I only recently figured out that my neuropathy issues (and many other symptoms) was very likely to be because of a B12 deficiency.

I developed a UTI or Prostatitis and I've been unable to treat it for months due to very severe reactions to antibiotics, which include Trimethoprim and Doxycycline. Both cause intense nerve pains all over.

It was only 18 days ago that I figured out I had low B12 and I believe the damage from it has made me oversensitive to these antibiotics. Interestingly, Trimethoprim can induce a folate deficiency quite quickly. It can also induce a B12 deficiency (from the NHS website). Doxycycline can cause giant cell inflammatory reactions and disruption of myelin sheath to 'exposed nerves'.

I used to be able to take both of these antibiotics many years ago without any issues at all - even for long periods of time. Now I can't take them for more than 2 days an I need to be taking them for 4-12 weeks!

I wonder, if I fix the B12 issue, will I be able to tolerate them again.

Since taking 5000 mcg of B12 about 18 days ago, my nerve tingling and burning is rapidly going away. I'm also noticing far less tingling now when mildly compressing nerves; i.e sitting on the toilet or resting against things.
