I have gastritis in the antrum of the stomach. Does anyone take omeprazole for this purpose. Given I SI every 2 days I’m thinking there wouldn’t be any issues. I’m trying to deal with the stomach and back pains it is causing.

Gastritis
Gastritis of the antrum is most commonly caused by H. pylori infection. I presume you've been tested.
Thank you. I was tested 6 months ago and was told by gastro that I was negative for HP. Now I’m wondering if I need another test?
Hi, I've been prescribed omeprazole and sucralfate for gastritis. It seemed to help, but you should not take it for longer than 1-2 months. However, I learned on this forum that low stomach acid rather than high stomach acid is the culprit when you have PA, which would actually mean you would benefit from taking something acidic e.g. a little lime juice in water with larger meals. Do you have PA? For me, minding my diet, the month on the omeprazole and sucralfate and now lime juice and sometimes yoghurt or olive oil seem to do the trick. Sorry I can't be more helpful. But read about low stomach acid and consult your GP on whether PPIs are wise, as they lower your stomach acid even more...
Thank you. Yes the reason I asked about it is because I’m confused how omeprazole can help when I have PA already so I will have low or no stomach acid. I have a good diet and I need betaine hcl to digest my food and take prescription digestive enzymes. I have also started taking lime juice in water and also ACV in water.
I’m tempted to go back and get another endoscopy as I was told I had gastritis 6 months ago. If it is not caused by h pylori it must be due to autoimmunity I suspect?
Hi, if you're sure you have PA I would be careful with PPIs. I tested negative, but still suspect I have low stomach acid, seeing how well I react to lime juice.
You could treat gastritis in many different ways, like with liquorice root.
The causes puzzle me, but PA and gastritis often occur together, so yes, that would be autoimmunity. I didn't have H. pylori and tested negative for all known autoimmune diseases, and still had chronic gastritis. I feel it has healed well now, though.
Hope yours does, too!
Ah yes DGL liquorice root - will give that a try, it might help! Thank you.
PA is caused by Autoimmune Metaplastic Gastric Atrophy. This causes gastritis in the body and fundus, and tends not to affect the antrum. So your gastritis restricted to the antrum doesn't sound like PA.
I would write to the gastroenterologist and ask them why they think you have a B12 deficiency.
Thanks fbirder. I tested positive for both PCA and IFA so I am guessing that’s it. He did 3 endoscopes over 18 months and didn’t mention about atrophy only a stripy lines of gastritis in the antrum, He added there was no treatment for it and it shouldn’t cause me any symptoms and that there was no h pylori infection.
I guess if he did another one now he might find something in the upper regions? But yes definitely PA.
Hi Martin 2812. I have stomach erosion. And in agony. I have PA. And was prescribed Omeprazle. But it didn't make sense. I take it very occasionally when I am really desperate. My husband has been on Lansoprazole since the 90's. He now has Osteoporosis, and curvature of the spine. I think it is all due to the medication. It might help with stomach pain, but at a cost. Good luck.
