Does anyone know if I need to declare b12 deficiency on my travel insurance? Since putting this into existing quotes, it’s almost doubling the premium. I have a friend with MS getting much cheaper quotes.

Are you declaring a B12 deficiency or Pernicious Anaemia? It may be worth trying the other.

The disadvantage of not declaring is if you become ill while away. The insurance company might argue that it is because of your PA. It might be worth talking to a real person - I suspect these computer algorithms are programmed to boost the price if they don't recognise what's in the health declaration. With a human you could persuade them that a vitamin deficiency should not make that much difference.

There’s a thought I’ll give them a ring ;) I was just declaring b12 deficiency as my doc refuses to believe it’s PA, in fact because of rising counts after loading doses he declares I’m ‘cured’, but I’m seeing another doctor, so unsure what she will put. If I have to declare everything I have been to docs with I’ll be there all day. A friend tells me that if I don’t state I had a retinal tear, even if I break a leg, the insurance will be void because I’ve not mentioned something else from years ago. I’m wondering how many people really have nothing to declare 🤔

I let the holiday insurance company know I had pa and to be honest they seemed too know more about it than my doctor. Lol. It didn’t make hardly any difference too my insurance cost they just asked a few questions and that was it x x

I rang mine and they asked a few questions but it was no problem and didn’t increase the price.

Definitely best to speak to them.

Didn't make a huge difference to my policy cost when I added PA to it and I must admit I declare everything to make sure that I am well covered for treatment and to get home again even when staying in the UK, I would get it put on your policy then go away and relax and have a good time

I’ve always declared PA. Saga travel insurance refused to cover me because of it. Cedartree offered cover at a very reasonable price so I doubt it made much, if any, difference to their quote.

Thanks, I’ll try Cedar Tree. I don’t personally rate Saga, they can be very expensive anyway. Same with Age UK who I’ve worked with for 16 years and don’t even offer a discount to employees!
