The article you refer to clearly states that more research is needed. Based on the fact that there are numerous scientific papers claiming that low B12 can contribute to autism, you may want to do a lot more research and not base your healthcare decisions on one research paper that disagrees with many others and clearly states that more research is needed. I understand your concern for a healthy baby but please do not let one article be the basis for your decision.

Baby will take whatever it needs from you. Try to find the citation for the study and read the study your self.

I would refer you back to my response the last time you asked this question a month ago

healthunlocked.com/pasoc/po...

Its quite possible that the high serum B12 may be related to treatment for B12 absorption problems in which case the causal link would be low b12

I saw a consultant haematologist throughout both pregnancies and this was absolutely never raised as a concern (and no concerns about autism in my children!).

Low B12 levels are linked to problems for the baby, and obviously linked to problems for the mother.

The snippet you’ve found on google refers to one study, which was not at all conclusive and admitted that more study was needed.

You are much safer treating your B12 needs appropriately in consultation with your doctors than believing everything you find on google!

Were your b12 levels high during pregnancy? Did you have normal kids...pls clear my doubts being a mother as I’m planning soon or should I lower my levels r

Yes my children are “normal” although that’s a pretty offensive way to word the question!

As it happens I have an autistic sibling, and I would never refer to them as being “abnormal”.

It’s honestly quite odd that you are so fixated on this risk of a child being autistic - the majority of people with autism live entirely happy and healthy lives. Their brains don’t function the same way as “neurotypical” people but that doesn’t make them abnormal or somehow terrible to have as children.

You have seen one tiny snippet of information from google, based on one small and incomplete study.

That is not enough to base any decisions on.

If you are really concerned about this (and you seem to be as you keep asking) then see your GP for advice - but I have never seen anybody advise that you should try to lower your B12 levels.

Bear in mind that the baby will take some of the B12, that if you breastfeed some will be used up as well. Higher levels are safer overall than lower levels.

Sorry for the offensive word My hearty apologies... can u pls tell wat were ur b12 levels b during both ur pregnancies?? Do u inject often

Seriously you are missing the point.

It doesn’t matter what my B12 levels were during pregnancy, and I’m certainly not going to find my medical records from 5 years ago to tell you.

You need to stop worrying about this bizarre snippet you’ve found on google.

It was one study, that was incomplete, and even the authors of the study said that more research was needed.

There are multiple other studies about the dangers of pernicious anaemia in general and in pregnancy and while breastfeeding.

You need to treat your pernicious anaemia appropriately: that is more important than ever during pregnancy.

That means treating your B12 symptoms.

B12 levels and test results actually mean very little - they don’t tell you how much active (ie useable) B12 you have, or how efficiently your body uses it.

That’s why everybody on this site will advise you that you should treat the symptoms. So if you have symptoms of pernicious anaemia, you inject more. If you don’t have symptoms, you can reduce your injections and try to find a stable point.

Your body will just excrete any B12 that you don’t need.

Stop worrying about this frankly bizarre question, and instead spend your time understanding your condition better.

Every 12 weeks.

I was found to be very low in B12 during my pregnancy and therefore had loading injections. My level would have shot right up because of those injections but not once was i told it would effect the baby. Myself and the doctors were far more concerned about having a low level of B12, especially whilst pregnant.

What were ur levels during pregnancy

Aly2 profile image
Aly2 in reply toGunj_redjem

91 before the injections so very low. As I had loading injections to rectify this it would have increased a lot, but they didn't retest as there is not much point after you start injections
