Hi, after finally going to doctor about long term numbness in the tips of my fingers, a blood test gave a B12 count of 89. First B12 injections next Mon and Tue but I am going on holiday for 2 weeks so will be unable to get the other build up injections. How will this affect things; will two 1mg injections fix me!? Can anyone tell me if they had similar fingertip numbness (no pins and needles)? Did the feeling come back or is it permanent nerve damage?

Also, 5 years ago I had heart palpitations or missed beats that lasted for a year then spontaneously stopped... could this be linked?

Thanks

Those two might make you feel a little better. Which can only be a good thing if you're off on holiday.

When you get back explain that those two were so long ago that they must have worn off by now, and see if you can start at the beginning of the course. You never know, it might work.

You should also point out to the doctor that the standard dosing regimen for people with neurological involvement (like you) is injections every other day until symptoms stop improving.

ANy nerve damage it has caused sounds fairly minor - so there is cause to hope that it will go away completely.

Your B12 is very low and you need proper treatment. The short answer to your question is no, 2 injections won’t fix you.

You need the 6 loading doses and then most likely an injection every other day as Fbirder has stated.

It took me 16 injections (1 every week) before a noticed a major improvement in my symptoms so talk to your doctor.

Numbness is a symptom of B12 deficiency to to nerve damage but you will hopefully recover with the right treatment.

Palpitations are also a symptom and also the skipped beats could be related to a possible potassium deficiency.

I’m not a medical doctor but that is my personal experience.

Other things that can cause palpitations are

Low Folate

Low Ferritin

and Low vitamin D

Its good to have a blood test to know your levels if you haven’t already done so.

Sounds like despite your very low reading your symptoms have only just begun so the injections before you go away will help you. If you well enough to go away that is good. Start again on return and carry on. Sounds as though you've nipped it in the bud.
