Depression is common, but it does go after a while.

The tightness in the throat sounds like it may be stress.

Depression I think I can cope with but the tightness in my throat I don't think it's stress, I'll leave it till I've had all .y injections and then if I feel the same try and see the GP. Thankyou for your reply x

About 3years ago i was first diagnosed with b12 def and PA ..i had a tightness in the throat/neck ..put down to stress ..b12 injections cleared it up pretty rapid , there is a definite connection to low b12 and whatever that symptom is . I was put through every test under the sun (which turned up negative) mri cat ultrasound ecg e.t.c e.t.c..but b12 injections cleared it all up in weeks.

Have you had your thyroid checked? I have an ache in my throat when my thyroid is not well managed, and the symptoms can be similar to B12.

What is OK for your thyroid results ? What was tested ? Do you have any results to post ? I have Hashimotos and a B12 issue. 😊

My NHS thyroid tests were (and still are) perfect but the private test of thyroid peroxidase antibodies was three times the upper range. This meant that my thyroid is being attacked (Hashimotos) but I don't uet have signs of thyroid disease.

Hopefully your TSH is under 1 - and your FT4 & FT3 are in the upper third of the range. Perfect results - ? - after 7 years as a member on Thyroid UK I have yet to see perfect tesults where Hashimotos is concerned. 😊

When I was diagnosed with Hashi's back in 2005 - the TSH - FT4 & FT3 were all in range. Anti-bodies HIGH. The GP prescribed Levo to support the thyroid whilst under attack from anti-bodies. Made sense to me ! I live in Greece.

Also check Folate - Ferritin - VitD as they are often low too with Hashi's.

Sadly thyroid disease is insiduous -so keep an eye 😴

Yes I recognise that as a symptom I had . Has gone now that I get enough B12 injections ( S.I.)

I suffer from tightness in the my throat. I was told it was anxiety and prescribed anxiety medication which never touched it. Once I started taking B12 it eventually cleared up. My doctor then stopped my B12 and it returned so I definitely feel it’s got something to do with low levels.

Hi, yes, I often get a sore mouth and tongu and what feels like a dagger in my throat before an injection is due (I am on monthly injections with the doctor).

Hi Fiona. I can tell you that the depression will get better, especially when you see symptoms improve. I have tightness in my throat and had it checked out by an ENT surgeon who said people with PA can get esophageal webs or rings. I had mine checked but nothing there. I was then diagnosed with SIBO and a fungal overgrowth, apparently another side effect of having PA. I was told that as I have an autoimmune disease I also have leaky gut and that has allowed the overgrowth. That has become systemic and causes all sorts of pains (like fibromyalgia) including tightness in the throat. There is a treatment regime for this which I’m about to embark on. I’m not saying that’s the same in your case but just sharing my own experience in case you want to get checked out.

Achlorhydria can cause SIBO ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Achlorhydria is another symptom of Autoimmune Metaplastic Gastric Atrophy, the condition that causes PA.

Marz is very wise.

Have had great advice from Marz and others on the thyroid page.

Would be really worth posting your results and ranges there what gp says is fine often isn’t fine with thyroid problems.

my throat feels tight / chocking feeling and am waiting for Endocrinologist to see for my thyroid problem.
