Run down a lot. Cocktails anyone?

Hey folks.

So, I’ve been getting bugs, infections and all sorts almost constantly for months now.

I SI B12 monthly at the moment.

I also take 400units folic acid and 1000units vitamin D daily.

My doc said I need the vitamin D. I take the folic acid because I read somewhere it’s a good idea.

I have a very easy lifestyle by most people’s standards - out of necessity. It’s true, I get woken up every morning by an inexhaustible pre-schooler, but I still think I shouldn’t be so illness prone. It’s a real drag, on top of everything else.

I read somewhere about vitamin and mineral cocktails being used as a treatment for various things. The British nutrition foundation doesn’t seem to be behind the idea, though. Has anyone here resorted to this? What do you find helpful?

I can't comment on the cocktail - but you might find a higher dose of Vit D helps. I took 1000IU everyday for 7 months and my levels only went up a little. After some reading, research & a private test (my GP wasn't really bothered about my Vit D level) I was recommended a much higher daily dose & to take a double dose for the first few weeks to act like loading doses. I really can't explain the difference it has made - I feel like a different person & many of my remaining symptoms have now hugely improved or disappeared. A lot of the symptoms of D deficiency are the same as B12 - I had spent months thinking I was stuck with permanent damage, but after just 12 weeks on the higher dose Vit D, much of this has now gone. If my experience over the past 18 months has taught me anything, it is that we are a delicate balancing act!!!

Good luck :)

Oh wow. That’s interesting! I’ll look into it and give it a go. Thank you. We really are a “delicate balancing act “. If only there were some sort of professional we could potentially see to keep us in balance so we don’t have to do all this guesswork..... oh, wait! 😉
