Does anyone else have trouble with hot flushes? I have been putting it down to menopause but I seem to be going hot, cold most of the day.

I had lots of hot flushes when first B12 defient. Much more than before poorly.

I am pleased to say that is one symptom that has just about gone. 9 months in.

I think . My 'thermostat ' definitely not in proper working order and was very dependant on environment. So hopefully will diminish or lesson for you too.

I have PA and self-inject B12. Three month into the treatment I started to get horrid hot flashes and night sweats. I thought it was menopause related, even though it was two years since my last period, and went to my GP to ask for HRT. She refused to prescribe it based on her strong belief that it causes cancer and advise me to look for some natural relief. Long story short, after another two month of this nightmare I was diagnosed with Hashimoto thyroiditis and prescribed Levothyroxine. After two weeks the hot flashes and night sweats went.

I do not want to scare you, but vitamin deficiencies and thyroid are correlated, perhaps you should get it tested. Look for more info on the sister forum thyroid UK healthunlocked.

It is a great site with very knowledgeable people. I hope you feel belter soon.

A couple of years go I was having horrible daily hot flashes and night sweats which I also attributed to menopause. I did a little research and read that when women go through menopause we produce less of an enzyme called DAO. DAO helps to rid the body of ingested histamine. I stopped consuming histamine producing foods and drinks. Which means anything brewed, pickled, fermented, and anything that contains caffeine. I felt better almost immediately. It's been almost a year since I gave up these foods. I am now starting to slowly reintroducing some of them (my favorites.) I now have a cup of tea a couple of times a week, a piece of chocolate or a glass of wine now and then without the flashes, but if I get cocky and over do it, the flashes come back. I know that this has nothing to do with B12 deficiency but maybe it might help you.

Yes, I do experience hot flushes. Meaning my body becomes very warm while sleeping - during day or night. But temperature when measured in thermometer shows normal. I am 33 yrs old so I don't think it is related to menopause for me. I do have b12 deficiency and have been on regular b12 injections. Can this symptom be one of the symptoms of b12 deficiency ? Plz let me know. Due to these hot flushes, I feel feverish but there is no fever.

I definitely have the hot and cold issues !! I too thought menopause but it’s different sometimes I get really cold first then hot flush comes on then cold again!! Once I started with the b12 it got better but now coming back and still doing the b12 so may be a combo of the b12 deficiency and menopause. Still trying to figure it out!

I had them to but at first I thought it was anxiety , ended up at gp when realised couldn’t even stand in the shower without it happening. Was diagnosed with b12 and low folate , definitely think it was the folate causing it as now keep levels up I have no sweats .

Hot flushes can be induced when your autonomous nervous system is affected, as B12 deficiency can have an impact on this I suppose it's possible, however I don't personally suffer from this. I do agree that a low histamine diet helps as my mother is histamine intolerant and has terrible hot flushes, she has discovered that the origin of her problem is dysbiosis and is trying to balance her microbiome (no easy task). I also have extreme dysbiosis. A recent conversation I had with Martyn Hooper confirmed my suspicion that PA evolves from the gut and I believe we will soon have proof of this as studies of the microbiome are making links with autoimmune diseases of all types. This is my opinion, I'm not a doctor but I read just about every medical study I can find on B12 and the microbiome.... The clues are out there!!
