Family history of PA

I have over 20 relatives on both sides of my family that have PA.

I am Fatigued and often experience confusion and memory loss.

Every blood test I have had from my Primary care Physician,my Rheumatologist, Cardiologist and Hematologist, confirm that I am Anemic, but show little concern..

The first Hematologist that they sent me to, I explained my Family History and asked Her if the Schilling's test is still used or not.

I also asked her if she could tell me more about the Intrinsic Factor, and the test to confirm the lack of it.

And she acted like I stomped on her PhD.

And that told me she knew very little about Pernicious Anemia.

My Great-Uncles personal Doctor, diagnosed him with PA, and put him on B12 injections, but the Insurance company said that there wasn't enough evidence that he had it. So they sent him to a so-called Specialist. And he told him he didn't need the B12 shots,so the injections we're stopped.

My Great uncle died from it.

Because by the time he was diagnosed the damage was done.

I have read of instances of some who we're not diagnosed until they had a Bone Marrow test.

Doctors should take you Especially Serious, if you have just one member of the family that has Pernicious Anemia.

But I haven't found one yet.

I take high doses of methyl B12 on my own. And the blood test still say I'm Anemic.

That is sad to read txttuff especially as your situation hasn't improved during the past two years.

I am not medically trained and wish you well.

If you have Pernicious Anaemia, it is imperative that you get B12 injections for life . If you really cannot get them from your doctor , then it would be good if you could self inject . You refer to your “Primary Care Physician” (G.P. here in UK ) , so I assume you are in the USA ? If I were you I would post on here again and in the heading ( so that it would be noticed ) , appeal to fellow Americans to help you to find out how to source what you need to self-inject.. We have several U.S. members on this forum , and I’m sure that they would help you . Also , bear in mind that you need Vitamin B9 to act with B12 (it’s called folate in fruit and veg , or folic acid in tablet form , say 40mcg ) You will find that self-injecting is cheaper than those Methylcobalamin tablets and much much more efficacious. Best wishes .
