PA and heat intolerance

Hi all. I use to be a summer girl. Loved the heat. The last few years I just can't stand it. I get sick when the temp goes up. I'm also a right leg amputee and have to wear several layers of socks and a wet suit type of sleeve that goes to the middle of my thigh. I am miserable. Is it common to have such heat intolerance with PA even tho I SI regularly?

Wowo - I'm just beginning my B12 treatment journey so no doubt others here will have better insight, but I can tell you I have always hated hot weather and, despite being trim, pretty darn fit & exercising a lot, I sweat like a pig, particularly from the head. Here's an NIH (U.S.) page describing how the peripheral neuropathy common in B12 deficiency can produce heat intolerance & sweating issues when it affects autonomic nerves ninds.nih.gov/Disorders/Pat... Only on my 2nd injection so too soon to tell if it's impacted my symptoms yet, fingers crossed for the heat & all the other issues!

That's interesting as I wasn't aware that PA could effect your body temperature in that way.

I have hated it when it gets above 20 as it really effects how I feel & completely drains me. Sweating also, especially during the night when I sleep, I would wake up soaked wet through, even if it wasn't a warm night. This has improved now though, but I just didn't out this particular improvement down to now SI B12 regularly. But when trying to do a bit of DIY or something, stuff that I used to just get on with & do 10 times as much without even feeling it, just gets me frustrated as I have to rest, (I did know PA does this), but the sweating that goes with it, I didn't know about.

10 years before my PA diagnosis I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease (overactive thyroid) and felt as you have described.

As Marz has said, your thyroid is your thermostat so it’s well worth having that checked.

Have you checked endocrine glands, thyroid, adrenal, etc. Stress on these run quite often with B12 deficiency. But yes I do remember having problem with heat as things was approaching critial disfunction, when before I'd been cold most of the time.

Hi all

I looked back at Thyroid test results from a year ago.

TSH 0.435(0.450-4.500) Low

T4 0.86(0.82-1.77)

Only just found this thread so sorry for late reply. I understand that the myelin damage that occurs with B12D and PA can affect the pituitary and it's ability to sense hormone levels, usually leading to secondary hypo (but can also be hyper). The combination of that and autonomic nervous system changes seem to really mess with sweating and heat sensitivity. Has with me, anyway! Best wishes
