I'm new here and felling lost. B12 at 165 but GP won't treat as I'm vegetarian (eat LOADS of eggs + other dairy and Marmite!). Up to 2yrs ago, was receiving injections but these stopped when I had a blood test that showed a higher level of B12 after months of talking iron supplements for plain old anemia. I'm beyind exhausted, have tinnitus/leg pain/terrible mental function. My mother had PA, as well as other auotimmine issues though my test for intrinsic factor is negative. I'd be grateful for any advice/info as I feel like I'm loosing the plot!

Hi Ronnocs sadly the Intrinsic Factor Antibodies (IFA) test is unreliable in that it gives false negatives in people with PA half the time. So a negative result doesn't mean that you don't have PA. However, a positive result is a sure-fire, 95% certain indicator of PA.
Is your doctor aware that P.A. can be inherited? Perhaps you should push for a re-test.
You are obviously not absorbing enough B12 via your digestion. Has your doctor not suggested supplementing orally?
Personally I use a methylcobamalin B12 spray between my 3 weekly injections which seems to "boost" my energy levels. These can be bought online or over the counter.
Another alternative done by many in this community is self injecting.
I am not a medically trained person but I've had Pernicious Anaemia (one of many causes of B12 deficiency) for more than 46 years.
I wish you well.
