In 2013 I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and in 2015 they found out that it was Hashimoto thyroiditis. At 21 years old I'm constantly battling with my TSH levels which are progressively getting worse despite me taking 200mg of levothyroxine. I also struggling with my Ferritin, Folate, Vitamin B12 and Vitamin D levels which drop as soon as I stop taking the prescribed supplements. I've just be told this can stop the absorption of the levothyroxine hence why it's not working. Has anyone else experienced this?? Any help would be appreciated

Hello Bex, I have hashimoto's and they put me on tirosint at one point which was the same as levythyroxin without the preservatives. But I had previously been on nature throid and was fine. When I took the levy, I felt like i was going to pass out after every meal. I went back on the nature throid and my thyroid levels were much better and felt more stable. I am still very sick but they say it is not my thryoid which is why I am on this forum as I might have a b12 deficieny or pernicious anemia. I am now starting b12 injections to see if I get better. My symptoms are weak and shaky, dizzy , off balance and blurred vision. I hope this helps you. Perhaps just trying the nature throid will help. I am not sure where you are but Iam in the US. I wish you well. Feel free to ask me anything as i have been through a lot.

as far as I am aware ferritin, folate B12 and vitamin D levels will not affect the absorption of levothyroxine so not sure where you heard that from.

there is a high cross-over between PA (an autoimmune condition affecting the absorption of B12 and leading to lower levels of stomach acidity). Low stomach acidity can affect the absorption of levothyroxine so one set of recommendations I've seen suggested that it can help for levothyroxine to be taken with something acidic - such as orange juice - but on an otherwise empty stomache - to aid absorption.

Do you have a diagnosis of PA/B12 absorption problems?
