Hi everyone I had a serum B12 test, results were 1552 which should have been no higher than 771. I am told this is not accurate form of test. I know I am B12 defecient but this is confusing. can someone shed a light on this. I have been unable to work due to a random fatigue which came out of no where 2 months ago. Unable to concentrate, cold hands, cold feet, sometimes my hand tingle, tinnitus.

Recent blood tests showed I am on the verge of Anemia. can post full result if you wish. please advise, unable to work and help out in the house. I had another test called hair test, HTMA it showed my cobalt was almost 0.

Thank you all.

if you have high serum B12 whilst taking supplents then it may mean that you are oversupplementing and it implies that you probably don't have an absorption problem such as PA.

You need to stop supplementing for 3-6 months to get a proper baseline measure of B12. Could be longer though.

You probably ought to get a liver and kidney panel done to rule out problems with kidney or liver as the reason for elevated B12.

How do you know you are B12 deficient - if you are going just by symptoms then you need to be aware that the symptoms overlap with a number of other conditions? There are different types of anaemia - microcytic anaemia is caused by iron deficiency and red blood cells are small. the type of anaemia caused by B12 deficiency is macrtocytic anaemia in which the red blood cells are rounder and larger than normal. It can also be the result of folate deficiency.

Before supplementing. I was very fatigued. Hair test showed almost 0 b12. So started to supplement and nothing changed. Have been advised serum is wrong, is that correct.
