Hello all. I'm looking for some advice regarding intra muscular injections. I've been diagnosed with PA for about four years now and my (non medically trained) husband has been injecting my B12 in alternating shoulders during that time. Earlier, as he was injecting, my muscle (or nerve?) twitched mid-way but stopped so he continued until finished. As this hasn't happened before, it concerned me. Just wondering if this has happened to anyone before and can this cause a problem? Why does this occur? The arm feels fine but l don't want to inadvertently cause nerve damage. Any advice appreciated. Thanks!!

IM lnjection
Hi MarMcL I have had way over 600 monthly B12 injections during the past over 46 years and always in the upper arm muscle administered by a practice nurse and it has happened on rare occasions to have been painful as if "catching a nerve".
I very much doubt if any lasting damage has been caused as I'm still "clivealive" at the age of 77
I wish you and your husband well and I congratulate him on doing a good job.
I self-inject into the thigh , alternating each time .( middle outer third , where the muscle is nearest the surface . ) I’ve never had had a’ twitch ‘ I use a 1 inch 25 G needle . It gives you a large area to inject into .
Hi I was injecting I M until recently when I had probably injected into a vein a few times which wasn't so much painful as odd as I could feel the solution going around my body, and into my head, which caused some headaches. I now inject subcutaneously into what little fat I have on my belly😜 this is far less painful and l reckon leaches out into the blood stream over hours rather than the seconds IM takes. I've had no problems since. Hope this helps.
