Hi sbadd

It is not uncommon for some symptoms to appear to get worse before they get better as the B12 you are having starts repairing the damage done to your nervous system and your brain starts getting multiple messages from part of the body it had "forgotten about" or lost contact with.

I sometimes liken it to a badly tuned radio on which you have turned the volume up high trying to catch the programme you want when all of a sudden the signal comes in loud and clear and the blast nearly deafens you.

A lot will depend on the severity and longevity of your B12 deficiency as to how long before there is no further improvement or recovery.

Some symptoms will "disappear" quite quickly whereas others may take months or even years. There is no set timescale as we are all different.

It is also important that your Folate level is monitored as this is essential to process the B12.

There is a complex interaction between folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance.

Symptoms of a folate deficiency can include:

symptoms related to anaemia

reduced sense of taste

diarrhoea

numbness and tingling in the feet and hands

muscle weakness

depression

Folic acid works closely with vitamin B12 in making red blood cells and helps iron function properly in the body.

Please go back to your doctor and ask about this.

I am not a medically trained person but I've had Pernicious Anaemia (one of many causes of B12 deficiency) for more than 46 years.

I wish you well.

Don't forget that if you still have neurological symptoms before your 3 month injection you will be entitled to have them every two months according to the updated B.N.F. Guidelines below.

What dose of b12 are you on with PA please

Snd folic ? Or folate

There’s such confusing things on here

Some say you dint need folic ?

If In range

How to monitor it ?

How do you or can you tell without blood tests regular ref your folate levels etc

Safe doses

Some say dsily b12

Some say alternate b12

If folate level is high or to high how to tell

As it can worsen neuro symtoms

I’m at my wits end with this

124 b12 in June loading dose Gp

3 a week fir 2 weeks then monthly

I’m worse

Was hospitalised last week

I know it’s the b12

But doctors haven’t a clue just kept saying my level was 1577 in range due to injections

Some thing is a missed I feel

I know it’s balancing things

But i for one can’t get this right to feel well

PA org says some inject daily to

And little and often small doses

Any advise ?

I inject 1000mcg of cyanocobamalin every three weeks and have taken 1 – Folic Acid 400μg

and 1 – Iron Ferrous Fumarate 210mg for more years than I can remember because at the age of 17 back in 1959 I had two thirds of my stomach removed because of a burst peptic ulcer so my circumstances are rather outside the "normal".

I also have Type 2 diabetes and a pancreatic insufficiency yet I'm still "clivealive" at the age of 79. :)

I wish you a goodnight from the U.K.

Yes after my first loading doses. I was told on here some people do get worse before better. Your symptoms very familiar. It will improve. I personally think apart from repair it's a shock to your body suddenly getting flooded. I'm on loading doses again and although am getting symptoms not nearly as severe as first time. Hope it settles soon. Hopefully you "rebooting'
