Nausea
The most common cause of B12 deficiency is an auto-immune condition that affects the gut - so quite possible that its a gut problem. One thing that is common with PA is low stomach acidity. When you eat your body produces a hormone called gastrin to stimulate the production of gastric juices - once your stomach gets to a certain level of acidity gastrin production stops and you stop producing gastric juices. However, if you have PA then your stomach doesn't produce as much acid as it should and the gastrin production isn't turned off.
You could try taking something a bit acidic with your food - lime juice in water is quite popular - and see if that helps
i Like a capful of apple cider vinegar in a half glass of water to help. Might be a good idea to keep a food journal as well, certain foods can cause an immediate reaction . I was listening to a podcast the other day and Sally Pacholok mentioned she takes an enzyme before each meal .I found the autoimmune protocol helpful for ruling out some foods that were causing me inflammation.
I also had h-pylori which made me feel nauseous , so that’s something to keep in mind for future if you haven’t been tested for it yet.
I found with the foods that were causing me inflammation there would always be bloating , sometimes nausea as well but always bloating
I used to have nausea after eating and I found that once I started taking betaine hydrochloride for digestion with my meals the nausea stopped. I rarely have it now. Before I started the HCL I would drag myself from the table after eating and have to lay down for an hour and wait for the nausea to pass. A doctor recommended this and it has really helped. Good luck! Also I found eating smaller meals to help.
From what I've read and my personal experience, yes, the B12 shots do cause a reaction that is almost identical to the deficiency symptoms themselves. I read on a post somewhere in this website that you should not stop the B12 injections until the symptoms subside. It's a paradox. It makes you feel that the B12 injections are making things worse.
God bless you and hope you recover.
