IBS and PA?

Good morning

I've always had irritable bowel syndrome, and have heard that IBS and PA may have a connection. I have found that since getting my B12 shots, the IBS is much better under control. My question is, has anyone else here experienced that? If so, did you re-introduce any trigger foods that you'd removed from your diet, and were you OK?

Thank you! I'm hoping I can begin to eat broccoli, cauliflower, and Brussels sprouts again.

I’m not sure that there’s any confirmed causal link between IBS and PA. however, Autoimmune Metaplastic Gastric Atrophy, the underlying cause of PA also causes low stomach acid (achlorhydria) which can give similar symptoms to IBS.

Hi,

I suffered from what was diagnosed as IBS for years. When my PA was diagnosed and treated the IBS completely disappeared. Coincidence or lonked? Too much of a coincidence for me, must be related somehow. Eggs and fats were my trigger foods, much better now. Good luck .The gut is definately complicated

I've had IBS for years - a long time before low B12 was diagnosed. I do think it's a lot better these days, though for me, onions are still evil and I would be wary of a sprout :)

I was also diagnosed with IBS and it was through investigating that that they found I had low B12. Prior to my B12 treatment my stomach was constantly sore, though the pain would move around. I was on mebeverine, three times a day to alleviate the pain. I don't know if it was the tablets or the B12 but it had considerably improved about 6 weeks after the loading doses and now I only take the tablets for the occasional flair up. I don't know if the pain was caused by IBS or something else but it certainly feels as if the two are in some way connected.
