BNF treatment guidance for PA has changed

Hi All,

Have you seen the latest PAS news item which mentions change in BNF treatment guidance on PA?

I am now wondering if there will be a corresponding change in treatment guidance for other causes of B12 deficiency.

BSH Cobalamin and Folate Guidelines refer to BNF when discussing treatment for B12 deficiency.

Thank you very much, Sleepybunny.

Very useful.

I note that everyday injections are the treatment for Tobacco amblyopia which may give reassurance to some people.

I don't know anything about it, other than what I've seen online. I think it's pretty rare. Just shows what B12 can improve if something has caused a [deficiency] problem.

My point is that there are occasions where daily jabs are recommended.

It seems a bit of an anomaly and I wonder if in the past more was known than is recognised now.

Thanks Denise, it’s food for thoughtI personally don’t smoke but have a couple of people in my family who do.

I couldn’t agree with you more about either intramuscular injections into the thigh or sub cutaneous ones in the tummy.

You do have to wonder if more was known about it a long time ago in the past when computers weren’t around & archiving as we do it wasn’t done.

This is good news, thank you.

Sleepybunny, that's excellent news. Hoping Martyn Hooper is at the House of Commons today, educating the MPs.

Hoping also that "B12 deficiency" will soon not be acceptable as a long-term diagnosis.... perhaps more people will be given a reason for this appalling condition, even if it is not PA. Even if we still have to self-inject to get anywhere near to a life !
