Requesting Doctors Appointments?!

Hi,

I was trying to book another doctor’s appointment as I’ve been in increasing amount of pain over the past few months. The receptionists was pleasant enough and willing to book an appointment for me with the doctor I had in mind. When requested for my birthday date her attitude changed completely and now I’m on a lottery of ‘book on the day’ and see who you’ll get. I can’t tell if its a game or not but thought I should share my story with others so as to not be caught out by unhelpful office processes.

Are you trying to tell us that you are over 65?

Your experience is shocking and upsetting for you . I suggest you tell your GP. Or do you think that would get you a black mark ?

No definitely not over 65 and yes I would get a black mark. The pain is not my b12 def but constant deep chest pain which was suspect in the eyes of the rheumatologist in May. Im trying to get an urgent referral as ive moved recently.

What do you think it was it about your birthdate that changed the receptionist’s attitude ?

Truthfully I have no idea and definitely would prefer to think of it as being ‘the receptionist is tired’ and it’s a Friday afternoon. Still I do think appointments should be given impartially.

Hi Lavender-Flower

No idea what happened in your case and if the lack of appointment choice is due to your age, that’s disgraceful.

However, just thought I'd mention...when I try to make an appointment with my preferred GP there are often (never) any available. When this happens, the receptionist advises me to ring for a 'book-on-the-day' (emergency) appointment, since there are a few appointments with that GP reserved as 'book-on-the-day' slots (though never guaranteed because allocated on a first come first served basis).

Sincerely hope that is why you were given that advice....though sounds as if not in a very helpful way.

👍

Oh my goodness that's terrible. Even the fact that you feel this is the case is not on - you should have got a gentle explanation of why the change in direction. I am sorry for you.

Sounds terrible how about you book your appointment online? No need to tell anyone about why you need it then! Good luck
