Am I correct in assuming Taking 1 - 400ug folic acid tablet a day will not hinder my B12. I am soon going to self inject my B12 and have read some posts regarding using folic acid alongside B12 injections. Just trying to improve my PA without the help of my GP who insists I can only have my B12 jab every 12 weeks even though the injection only seems to last for about 8 weeks. (I don't have any nerve or neurological symptoms) just the tiredness and other PA symptoms.

Great site and people on here, only wish my GP would look at some of the post sometimes.

Hi KeithR I doubt taking 1 - 400ug folic acid tablet a day will do you any harm as I do every day and I'm still "clivealive" aged 77 after 46 years of P.A. following gastric surgery and when it was last tested my folate level was still only in the top third of the range.

However you can source Folate naturally by eating plenty of leafy green vegetables in your daily diet.

I am not a medically trained person and I wish you well.

Thank you Clive. Will increase my intake of veg too.

Increasing the amount of veg you eat is always a good idea. But I’d take the pills as well.

Many of the causes of B12 deficiency also hinder the absorption of folate from food. But they don’t affect absorption of folic acid.
