Hi can anyone recommend a good vit d supplement . My gp gave me stexerol -D3 is anyone on this Since starting 1000 units a day I have felt unwell and I don’t think it is bringing my levels up . My daughter has just started Ad-cal chewable tablets . I wondered if I should try these . Or is there another brand that someone can recommend . I know the symptoms of my pa and vit d deficiency overlap so I’m not sure what is causing my feeling unwell . But I would like to try something else if these are not right for me .

you might be low in magnesium and taking vitamin D is increasing that deficiency.

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/2...

i took 5000 iu of vitamin D with A and K, for 16 months and only increased my vit D level from 20 to 39.

i was also irritable and my joints hurt, hurt, hurt. Once i started magnesium supplimentation my vitamin D increased to 70.9 rapidly, and i was way less irritable and joint pain stopped.

you can try taking a bath in epsom or deep sea salts (2 or 3 cups for at least 40 minutes) and see if you feel less fatigued/better for the following hour or 2. if so, you need magnesium as that is the main ingredient in epsom/deep sea salts.

best of health

Hi AndyPandy30. First vitamin D3 I was given were beautiful blue capsules but they made me ill and so I bought some over the counter, but first 2 lots weren't too good either. Ended up buying cheap ones made by Valuepak and they have been perfect. Just 1 a day for a few years now. For a while they weren't available locally so tried on Amazon and got them no bother. Hope all goes well for you and your brother. 🌞

Thankyou AndyPandy30. Doing very well now. Injections every 8 weeks but with the patches to use when needed ,things are much better. It's so difficult to have all 3 of you on difference meds but wish you all better health. It's good to keep in touch. I know that sharing our ups and downs does help, just knowing we are not alone makes a difference. 🌞

just to add on to my first post...if you find 1000iu to be too little...take more sprays...one spray is 1000iu...also I wouldn't use vitamin d2 as its useless...adding magnesium is a good idea...start off low and work your way up..we are all different...

1000iu is really a basic maintenance dose. To address a deficiency NICE CKS/

Endocrine Society guidelines state:

" We suggest that all adults who are vitamin D deficient be treated with 50,000 IU of vitamin D2 or vitamin D3 once a week for 8 wk or its equivalent of 6000 IU of vitamin D2 or vitamin D3 daily to achieve a blood level of 25(OH)D above 75 nmol/L (30 ng/ml), followed by maintenance therapy of 1500–2000 IU/d (2|⊕⊕⊕⊕)."

3.5 In obese patients, patients with malabsorption syndromes, and patients on medications affecting vitamin D metabolism, we suggest a higher dose (two to three times higher; at least 6000–10,000 IU/d) of vitamin D to treat vitamin D deficiency to maintain a 25(OH)D level above 75 nmol/L (30ng/mL), followed by maintenance therapy of 3000–6000 IU/d (2|⊕⊕⊕⊕"

Higher doses of D3 need the cofactor K2:

" The biological role of vitamin K2 is to help move calcium into the proper areas in your body, such as your bones and teeth. It also helps remove calcium from areas where it shouldn’t be, such as in your arteries and soft tissues. The optimal amounts of vitamin K2 are still under investigation, but it seems likely that 180 to 200 micrograms of vitamin K2 might be enough to activate your body’s K2-dependent proteins to shuttle calcium to the proper areas

If you take oral vitamin D, you also need to take vitamin K2. Vitamin K2 deficiency is actually what produces the symptoms of vitamin D toxicity, which includes inappropriate calcification that can lead to hardening of your arteries"
