B12 injection

Hi. Bit confused. My gp gave me a prescription for b12 injection. I picked it up today. When I opened the box there were two small sealed bottles inside. I have never had a b12 injection before. Is there something missing, like a needle? Or do I have to take them to a blood testing place to get a professional do inject them? Thanks.

are you in the UK?

suggest that you ring the GP surgery and arrange for nurse to give you the injection.

it sounds to me as if the surgery have made a mistake and the prescription should really have been filled internally by the nurse when you went for an injection.

Life can be confusing enough when you are B12 deficient without mistakes like that :)

I am always given the prescription then take the ampoule with me for them to inject but should have told you to book an appointment to have it injected . Seems very strange for them to assume you know what to do . Good luck .

I've been having a prescription issued for five vials and picking up my own B12 for 46 years but then I guess it wasn't common for the surgery to have them in those far off long ago days :) At least I know I've got them when I turn up at the surgery which I've belonged to for over 52 years.

O guess the injections are working as I'm coming up to 77.

This happened to me so I kept the prescription, as I paid for it. Sorted internally eventually.

My old surgery used to do that, you picked up your prescription and then made an appointment with the nurse and took your B12 in with you for her to inject or you could elect to leave it in the fridge at the surgery.

Since been merged with another surgery I now get my own and self inject ,hope you feel an improvement soon.:)

When you take the vial/ampoule(s) to your appointment with the nurse for the injection, keep the ampoule 'somewhere warm' on your body so the contents are at body temperature for the injection ;)

The injection is much more comfortable than when cold ;)

You have to purchase needles if you want to give yourself the shots. Or if you know someone who has needles like someone with diabetes. Be sure to fill the 1ml or 1CC needle as they are the same.
