Suffering with nausea. I am now on a treatment for a recurring h-pylori infection. I had a complete blood done and MCV is 98. I am at wits end. Any advise would be helpful.

Hi Yiayia74

The MCV is higher than normal when red blood cells are larger than normal. This is called macrocytic anemia. Macrocytic anemia can be caused by: Vitamin B-12 deficiency. Your level at 98 is just above range of 80-96 fL/red cell in adults.

A possible Vitamin B12 deficiency may have been caused by the h-pylori infection which you say is being treated. Once the infection is eradicated your ability to absorb B12 from your daily diet of meat, fish, eggs, seafood, poultry and dairy produce will be restored.

Ask your doctor to test your Vitamin B12 and Folate levels as he/she may wish you to take supplements if the levels are low.

I am not a medically trained person but I've had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for more than 45 years.

I wish you well

Thank you so much clivealive for your answer. I wonder if it would be helpful to beta B12 injection now?

It would do you no harm but would "skew" any blood tests your doctor may want done to see just how low your levels are as you may need to have the B12 injected.

When I went to my doctor I did not know my MCV was 98 until he gave me my blood results and I even asked for a B12 shot . He didn’t Seem to know much about h-pylori. He did not have me tested for it just put me on 2 antibiotics and ompersole. I have terrible nausea and fatigue. This is my third round with h-pylori.
