B12 116, Vitamin D 15.9

Hi to everyone,

I"ve been reading yours experiences so I decided to share mine.

I did blood test for all minerals, CBC, CRP, B12, Vitamin D and Folic acid. Everything came OK, except B12 and Vitamin D.

I"m a vegan for 2 years now and I have been taking B12 pills since, first year not that often, last year regularly, last 3 months not at all. Last few months I have upper and lower right abdominal and back pain, not on daily basis. I did abdominal ultrasound and everything is fine, doctor said that it could be spine related problem. I dont feel tired, fatigue or any neurological symptom.

Any recommendation regarding B12 shots, coz as I read here at that level shots are obligatory / recommended?

All the best and have a nice day

Igor

Hi Igipop It may be your now being vegan that, as long as you don't have an absorption problem with you digestion, you should carry on with the B12 tablets all the time for the rest of your life. You won't necessarily need to have injections unless you cannot absorb the B12 from tablets.

Are you doing anything about your low Vitamin D?

I am not a medically trained person but I've had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for more than 45 years.

I wish you well

Is your mesurement for VitD nmol/L or ng/L - ?

Having results that are fine is not good :-) You need the actual result with ranges - Docs often say fine when they mean 'in range ' - but it is where you are in the range for you to be well :-) If you are in the UK your GP should be following the Guidelines for BOTH B12 and VitD - which are possibly sitting on his desk but which he has not read :-)

what was the strength of the tablets you were taking?

If the B12 deficiency is dietary I'd be inclined to try and correct it orally personally just to avoid the possibility of kicking off a reaction that would leave you needing to keep levels in your blood very very high.

However, being vegan doesn't rule out an absorption problem and, if your levels had improved whilst on low level supplements, 3 months is actually quite a short time in which to become deficient again, unlessyou have an absorption problem.

First of all thanks a lot for your answers!

@clivealive - same thing as B12, "first year not that often, last year regularly, last 3 months not at all"

@Marz - it is nmol/L ... first part of 2017 I have been taking Vitamin D pills ( dont remember which one) and second part Lifetime"s liquid form Calcium and Magnesium citrate and Vitamin D3 - per serving 1000IU

@Gambit62 - those are Natural Welth B12 pills. One pill - 1000µg
