Since my husband was told he was B12 deficient, he had his booster injections at Christmas, and is now due his 3monthly shot, can involuntary spasms occur?? Every now and again, information would be helpful, as I would like to know if it is a side effect!!!

Hi, I find spasms tend to occur when you’re b12 and /or magnesium deficient.

I wouldn’t say it’s a side effect if the meds but probably pointing to the fact his b12 levels have lowered again and he needs his injections soon.

Maybe someone else can correct me if this is a known side effect of Tx

Spasms can be caused by low potassium too. Once b12 starts generating new red blood cells, potassium gets moved into the cells, and out of the blood. Especially more so if at the beginning of treatment, but can happen at any time. Make sure his potassium levels are checked often, & be sure that he eats a lot of potassium rich foods. Calcium will help absorb potassium, and it even helps to absorb the b12 a lot better, as well. :)
