My dear mother now 90 has now had her 3 monthly injection of b12 stopped (she had her last injection in September) and was 90 in December. The reason being she is cured of PA. According to her Doctor r. He had also cured her of osteoporosis many years ago and stopped her treatment as she had only lost two inches in height, since when she has lost a further six inches, so my mother once five feet 9 inches is now just over five feet and unable to walk.

I have tried to intervene but been told to keep out of it by my mother and the doctor.

What should I do?

you could also consider contacting (and joining) the PAS

however, it is likely to be very difficult to resolve the situation without your mothers co-operation unless you have a lasting power of attorney in respect of your mothers health

Having been in a similar position, I know how frustrated you must feel Jointpain, and agree with suggestion re. contacting the PAS for help in educating your mother's surgery on the importance of B12 for life for PA as well as older people with B12 deficiency generally.

The law, unfortunately, appears to work in favour of modern medical practice these days when close family relatives, who usually have more intimate knowledge of their loved one's medical history over many years, are arrogantly sidelined and ignored. Patient history is usually one of the most relevant aspects of correct diagnosis according to conscientious doctors, who believe in getting to the root cause of disease.

I wrote to my relative's surgery with full history, symptoms, latest BMJ medical research and various medical guidelines with initial success, though the family had to battle for injections every other day for the serious neurological and psychiatric symptoms. Unfortunately neurological damage had become permanent through inadequate treatment and the surgery used this excuse to withdraw B12 injections and treat only with antipsychotics....
