Do anyone have an idea is there any relation between low b12 and high cholesterol? Mean to say can low b12 causes high cholesterol?

there are some genetic variants on the genes that control the processing of lipids that are activated by low B12 levels leading to high cholesterol.

I have read that Homocysteine is raised in the presence of raised cholesterol. Also raised homocysteine can be present in cases of low B12. Have not studied the science but do know that having lowered my homocysteine it brought cholesterol down too .... B12 and B Vitamins was the suggested treatment.

Raised cholesterol is linked to low thyroid - up until the early 70's patients with raised cholesterol had their thyroids treated ! Low B12 is very common in people with thyroid issues.

Always good to rule out thyroid issues with the correct testing - rarely done on the NHS.

I agree absolutely Marz. If homocysteine is high, lowering it with B12 treatment, reduces the chance of stroke, heart attacks and improves cholesterol.

I have high cholesterol levels that lately are creeping up year on year, and had hoped that stopping smoking a few years back would help lower it- it didn't. Not sure why. Thought my healthy vegetarian diet of the past 40 years was fine. Have been eating more eggs and cheese because of B12 deficiency, and was told perhaps I should cut these out since B12 injections alone will take care of deficiency. I'm a bit reluctant to do this as it would mean becoming vegan while already deficient. Other than that, I can find nothing at all diet-wise that would help me lower cholesterol. I'm told my homocysteine levels are "normal" but methylmalonic acid (MMA) levels always raised -usually between about 350-400 (range: 0-280)- which is not massively high, but GP says is rare.

What made you suspect a link ? Interesting....I'd never thought about it before.
