I did have high cholesterol which reduced after taking B12. But I think this was because I radically altered my diet- cut down on the carbs - and started regular exercise.

Thank you .. I have done this and my GP still thinks I need statins and will not agree to additional B12 …

Yes , points for the surgery for statin prescribing , but not B12 injections . If you need B12 injections, are you willing to self inject , like many of us have to? If so , you can find out here how to do this l

I refused to take statins too and GP agreed change of diet (cut out all refined sugars and upped the protein intake) and taking plant sterols plus more walking would help. It did and has brought it right down from 8.2 to 6.1 in 8 weeks, hoping to continue with recheck in another 8 weeks.

I made the same changes and had similar results, It is an easy regime to follow. Why aren't GP's advising patients to do this instead of handing out statins like sweets.

I asked the doctor that very question and he said that it’s because not enough testing has been done on plant sterols by the powers that be, but to carry on with whatever I was doing. It’s shocking really that they know their advice is not good but they are not allowed to prescribe the alternative 🤨

No money for them in health food and good advice 😡

I don't take plant sterols. I'm afraid I'm very skeptical about them. l tend to believe all the recent reseach about the real cause of high cholesterol. All the processed foods, sugar and highly processed carbohydrates in peoples diets. I also think my cholesterol levels declined too quickly for it to be an effect of B12. Within 3 months my levels went from 10 to 2.

Absolutely, modern trends are the cause of so much suffering. I’m not convinced that we all need low cholesterol even but if natural means can bring it down then that’s fine by me :)

My cholesterol reduced from 8.5 to 6 at last blood test and the only change I had was b12 injections as I have p.a.My diet is already good although exercise could be better but I struggle with a bad foot so I’m a bit limited in walking etc.I’d tried everything except statins previous to the b12 shots and yes they are overly keen to start you on them and I have declined every time, just say your making lifestyle changes they can’t force you.best of luck

In short yes. Low B12 leads to higher LDL and triglycerides. See below: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl...

Very interesting skim read as I've just had a text from my GP referring me to the NHS website as my cholesterol level is a "cause for concern". However, I'll need to put some time aside to re-read as for me some cross referencing will be needed to understand it 😏🙂

I once read that high cholesterol used to be considered a diagnostic indicator for underactive thyroid. Maybe post on TUK for thyroid advice.
