Has anyone recovered completely from b12 deficiency? And has anyone's focus and concentration returned to normal after it's treatment? If yes, then how long it took you? Your answer is highly appreciated thanks.

U mean concentration and focus ia related to vision problem ( difficulty in study)

Or is it reated to brain(lack of interst in study or memory loss)

No. I used to take folic acid but then I would feel nauseated so I stopped taking it. I only get b12 shots weekly now. Damn monthly 1 shotnever helps lol. You should increase methylcobalamin.

Hi Mhk92 a lot will depend on how long you have been deficient before treatment and how severe the damage that's been done to your nervous system. There is no set timescale as we are all different.

Some symptoms may clear up quickly whereas others may even appear to get worse before they get better.

I've had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for over 46 years and on three weekly B12 injections for the rest of my life but generally speaking I'm pretty OK at the age of 76.

I wish you well.

My RBCS are normocytic normochromic. My symptoms got apparent in April of this year. I am 25. Been on injections for the past 1 and a half month. Most symptoms have improved but this giddiness is a problem.

Have you had your Iron and Folate tested since having the B12 injections?

There is a complex interaction between folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance.

Symptoms of a folate deficiency can include:

symptoms related to anaemia

reduced sense of taste

diarrhoea

numbness and tingling in the feet and hands

muscle weakness

depression

Folic acid works closely with vitamin B12 in making red blood cells and helps iron function properly in the body.

I am not a medically trained person so I suggest you mention your ongoing symptoms to your doctor.

My iron is fine, didn't check my folate though.

You need the folate checking as it works with the B12 in the body. What was the * fine * result for Ferritin - needs to be around 70 ....

Serum ferritin: 44

Speaking with my thyroid hat on - we always suggest the Ferritin should be halfway through the range or at the least at 70. Even without a thyroid issue you need good Ferritin levels to enable thyroid hormones to work well in the body. Also good levels of B12 - Folate and VitD are required :-)

I had had symptoms for more than 20 years and had got so bad I could barely walk or talk before I got the correct level of treatment for me. I lost about 2 years of my life which I can't really remember but... 2 1/2years of daily injections and supporting supplements has seen much of my cognitive function, motor skills and energy return. I'm not as sharp as I was but I can solve problems, remember things and think through things fairly well again and I continue to improve.

It all depends on getting enough of what your body needs.

Don't despair - it is possible to live with B12 deficiency so long as you get treatment.

Hi

I was diagnosed in 2015 - prior to this I could finish sentences as I forgot words (I think it’s called aphasia) - I still have this problem at times but nowhere near as bad as before treatment. My short term memory was gone - I couldn’t remember the details of a tv programme watched the day before - this has mostly improved but I still have problems.

On good days, I am totally cured of the problem on bad days I can forget and become inarticulate but nowhere near as bad as before I started b12 injections.

I tend to vaulter when I get a return of neurological problems which for me are sudden moments of drifting into semi consciousness and then having tinnitus (although the tinnitus has now stopped ).

Reading the administrators comments to my problems, I am of the view that it is a long haul to full recovery.

Good luck and merry Christmas

How long you had your symptoms before you started treating yourself?

I had the language and memory problems for about two years they just got worse along with exhaustion then I started to have moments of severe blurred vision and semi conscious moments with tinnitus - that’s when I went to the doctor and my b12 deficiency was discovered. I now have injections every 12 weeks but I need them at least every 8 weeks as the symptoms return after 4/5 weeks.

However, so far, I have only had reduced symptoms for the last two injection cycles and this cycle I had around six short events - 3 during sleep and 3 during the day over a week ago.

I can only assume that the damage done by the deficiency is getting better
