Any Good News???

My B12 level was down to 102 and I was feeling really rotten!

I've had the course of 5 injections and I have seen a gastro consultant who is going to investigate why I'm not absorbing B12. He is looking at my bile production as I have oily stools and food does pass through me very quickly!

I just wondered how quickly the injections are supposed to work and are there any good news stories out there?

Thanks

Hi Chrisandrews71 has your Folate level been tested as this and the B12 you are having injected helps your iron to make red blood cells and to function properly in your body.

It's still early days in your treatment and some symptoms may even appear to get worse before they get better but at least you're now on the right road. There is no set timetable as we are all different.

I've had P.A. (a form of B12 deficiency) for more than 45 years and I'm now over 75 and still "clivealive"

I wish you well

the injections will have raised your B12 levels a lot but how long it takes to feel better will depend on what symptoms you have and which of the several processes that don't run properly if your cells don't have enough B12 has caused the problems.

If you had macrocytic anaemia that will take a few months at least to reverse.

If you have damage to the protective layer around your nerve cells that will take longer to heal.

Other processes, eg resetting neurotransmitters will recover almost instantaneously.

Hi,

Glad to hear you are seeing a gastro-consultant.

"I've had the course of 5 injections"

I assume these were loading jabs, have you been offered ongoing treatment and if yes, how often will the injections be?

On your other thread I mentioned the recommended treatment for B12 deficiency if in UK.

In UK, for B12 deficiency without neuro symptoms, it's 6 B12 loading jabs over 2 weeks followed by an B12 jab every 3 months.

For B12 deficiency with neuro symptoms, it's a B12 loading jab every other day followed by a jab every 2 months.

As I said on your other thread, I hope your GP and any consultants are aware that it is possible to have Antibody Negative Pernicious Anaemia.
