Ok so Iv had endoscopy results, abdominal MRI and both have come back clear with just inflammation in stomach lining. So why do I have pa? I'm so confused.... do I have b12 deficiency or PA??? Am I at increased risk of stomach cancer and If so what is the percentage of this??? I really hope someone can help x
I'm so confused can someone explain??? - Pernicious Anaemi...
I'm so confused can someone explain???
Hi Dani82
Please don't panic as whether you have B12 deficiency or P.A. it is so easily treated.
What treatment has your doctor prescribed for you?
I am not a medically trained person but have had P.A. for 46 years and I'm still "clivealive" and over 75
I'm 35, I believe I have had this condition a very long time. I remember strange symptoms most of my life, like my big toe nails randomly fell off once haha. Strange huh! Anyway, no treatment or next steps have been spoken about! Iv just been left. I have my b12 injections every 3 months although i had it early this time as I became anemic again. I just dnt understand it all clivealive.... in always in pain in my tummy but nothing has shown up..... and I get worries about the increased rick of stomach cancer a lot!!! My gp just says b12 is no longer a problem once I'm getting jabs....
Hi Dan,
I’ve just posted on xiarei. I have no specific knowledge on your situation but if you are getting continuous stomach pain it could simply be what I had which was B12 deficiency and a destroyed biome.
You could try Symprove. This is a specialist probiotic developed by University College Hospitals in London.
You can telephone the company for guidance - they cannot advise. Cost works out at about £120 from memory, for the 12 week treatment course. This worked for me where no other probiotics including sauerkraut had any effect.
Did they take any biopsy samples during your endoscopy? They would show up just where your gastritis (inflammation of the stomach lining) is located, and if there's any sign of metaplasia. PA is caused by Autoimmune Metaplastic Gastric Atrophy.
Having AMGA does very slightly raise the chances of having gastric cancer. But it is a very slight increase. If you had stomach cancer, or were even close to having it, then the endoscopy would have picked it up.
If you do have AMGA then the cells in the stomach that produce acid are being killed off. This lack of acid can have many effects. B12 and iron in food are bound to protein. Stomach acid helps to release them from the protein, so now acid can mean poor absorption.
The undigested protein can make its way to the large intestine, and the bacteria that live their can thrive on this unexpected bonus. They can move from the large into the small intestine.
The effects of all this are bloating, wind, cramps and diarrhoea.
I've found that about 30 ml of lime juice in water taken with large meals keeps all those symptoms away. I also take a probiotic - BioKult every day (I tried Symprove but it's just so expensive).
Thank you for the reply. It's all so confusing! Ya they took biopsy And had small bowel MRI but all that shows as inflammation of stomach lining x
What is AMGA?? X
Autoimmune Metaplastic Gastric Atrophy
No one has even explained anything to me... literally oh sorry we havnt believed to for two years about being so ill and you have pernicious anemia, here's some b12 jabs.... the end! The only reason Iv had the tests I have is down to me demanding. I just dnt understand.so if I change my diet will that change the pa? Is it through diet? I dnt think my intrinsic factor has been checked either x
Have you been taking any anti inflammatories like Naproxen, as that can cause gastritis. I had an endoscopy and it showed the same. They have now taken me off them. It may not apply to you, but some medications can irritate the stomach.
The only think I take is folic acid and b12 jabs ☺️
So I shouldn't be worried??? Can gastritis cause PA then x
It's my future I'm worried about. Thanks for all the responses. It's very appreciated x
That shouldn't cause problems as far as I know. It was just a thought as I know that it can be a problem.
Have you been tested for Helicobacter Pylori
I'm not sure x
Really important to check can be the course of may stomach problems and Low B12
I second this. Helicobacter pylori is what docs believe caused my PA in the first place and the change in my general health after I had it treated was very noticeable (although the PA is here to stay). I would definitely ask my GP to check if you've had the test. And good luck getting everything sorted - there really is a lack of clear info from docs sometimes
For stomach inflammation please consider ayurvedic herbs... Google iherb site and search there. Himalaya brand is only i can recommend with very effective herbal medicines. No side effects.
DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES FOLLOW THIS ADVICE. IT IS DANGEROUS!
Ayurvedic herbs can destroy your liver and kill you.
Hi Dani, just curious after a year if you have found out anything new. I was just diagnosed with PA and stomach inflammation as well. Waiting to hear about biopsy results though. Hope you are doing well.
