Metal taste in mouth

Today I had quite a strong metalic taste in my mouth? I wonder does anyone know what this could be? Am I lacking in a vitamin. I am taking all my co-factors along with my b12 injections....maybe it's nothing or maybe I am taking too much? Thanks

The only thing I can suggest is your Folate could be high. Worth Googling this and getting blood checked by GP, if amenable ;)

Oh OK, never thought of that. ...I'll look intout it. I have been taking 5m folic every day so maybe it's that. My doctor isnt great and won't do another folic test but I'll Google it. Thank you

Hi mdoh1918.

Yes, I get that metallic thing quite often...it's horrid, isn't it 😖.

It can be caused by a surprising number of things, including multi-vitwmin vitamin supplements, iron, zinc etc. Lots of medications also have that as a side effect - in my case, it's caused by taking steroids and iron (I think).

Here's a link to an article you might find interesting:

JMN2017 might be right about the folate. 5mg of folic acid a day is a high dose unless you have a severe folate deficiency - and this high dosage would usually only be taken for a short while (a couple of months) until levels are raised sufficiently. Most GP's will give that dose for about three months and then retest folate levels and reduce the dose to 400mcg a day, as a maintenance dose, if needed (some people don't need to take a maintenance dose).

High folate levels can give some quite nasty side effects...here's a link to more information about that:

Hope you manage to find some answers.

Good luck

👍
