I'm neither a dr or a pharmacist but personally, I wouldn't.
Anything you have to alter is giving an opportunity for error---- the crystals not dissolving sufficiently, risk of contamination when mixing. If the crystals are not in single use sealed packs there's the risk of contamination in between preparing injections .
Ampules are single use and sterile.
Thank you for your reply. I should have been more clear in my post. I'm asking if this is the right powder to use to make Injectable-methylcobalaminin
Thanks in advance for any opinions or thoughts.
Hi ShipShef. This is not the usual way to present information about injectable grade B12...and I see that it's apparently produced in drums (contaminants from the drums can leach into the crystals)!
The certificate of analysis - no idea what this is or what it 'means', but it's never seen in relation to injectable B12.
I also note that it states contents include 1% related substances - no information about what these may be.
If the product is not marked for IM injection, don't use it for injection. Injection grade material is produced to a much higher standard and also includes bacterial agents to ensure the quality and sterility of the material...in this case, B12.
So...is this the right powder to mix with normal saline for injection - no it's not.
Would I inject this I to myself - no. Not under any circumstances.
I agree with Hidden ...best to buy injectable grade B12 in single dose ampoules - if you need more advice about a safe supplier, post again and we can advise about that.
Sorry if that's not what you want to hear but there's just no way that I'd consider injecting this...or advise anybody to do so.
👍
Foggyme,
Very much agreed.
The details include the term "ration of optical density". Anyone who knew what they were doing would probably notice that it should be "ratio of optical density".
Concerning when they can't even get the boilerplate text right.
Good spot eagle eyed helvella 😉.
I suspect that this might be something meant for mixing with animal feed - though not even sure I'd want to do that, given the lack of accuracy in the boilerplate text!
Goodness only knows what it actually contains 🤔😖
👍
Exactly my thoughts - animal feed. But methyl? Do they use that for animals?
20 kilograms is a huge amount of B12... Who would buy that amount? 20 million doses of 1000 micrograms - and that itself is a large dose.
Please don't inject this substance!
B12 comes in many forms for example sub-lingual or oral tablets, or for injection. All come with a legally required description of product characteristics including instructions on how to self administer and a list of potential side effects. Throughout europe, this legal requirement also pertains to animal as well as human products.
I suggest contacting the manufacturer for the SPC ( specific product characteristics) ; if there isn't one in the packaging, to inform yourself prior to making a decision.
Your advice is very much appreciated!
Definitely won't be injecting this.
Ok my hunt continues for powder I can convert into injectable form.
Oxford biosciences do powdered methyl to mix with injectable saline. One ampoule provides 10 mls and you can either inject 1ml or 0.5 ml at a time. I've used this, found it highly effective, and had no problems. I'll try and find the link if you tHe trouble finding it
Hi lulu
I too buy oxford science, I read that as soon as you load it into a syringe it degrades due to the light, I try to do it in as little light as possible, what are your thoughts?
What's wrong with with single-dose hydroxocobalamin or cyanocobalamin ampoules. Safer and just as effective.
