First Time Self Injecting

So I have just self injected my b12 into my leg for the first time. I was extremely nervous, but kept reminding myself how much better I was going to feel. I used the information on this forum to order all the equipment I needed and ordered the b12 ampoules from Germany. I have started with 10 ampoule order as I wanted to see how I get on. It only took 2 days for the b12 to arrive and cost approx £16 Inc delivery. I used medisave for everything else, this cost approx £24.

The injection itself was easy enough to do, didn't hurt when needle went in, liquid stung a little, but it does that with the nurse anyway. I really hope this is a turning point in my life, I have suffered with PA now for approx 5 years and never last between injections, constantly have a crash and have to wait for injection to kick in. So fingers crossed this is the answer.

Thank you to all on here who posted information on what is needed to self inject. It was very helpful and supportive to know I'm not doing this on my own.

Let me congratulate you . It is no mean feat to inject for the first time . You will gradually gain in confidence , and it will be a doddle in no time . The benefits to you will be enormous . Don’t forget a daily folic acid tablet -say 400mcg . Here is your medal 🥇 You have earned it 👍🍀!

As my wife says, a lot of the worry with PA is knowing that even if you can get treatment in accordance with the guidelines (which you often can’t) it can be snatched away from you at any time by a change of doctor, or even a change in your doctor.

That little row of red ampoules says “We’re in control”, a feeling of relief second only to the feeling of relief that the little ampoules themselves will bring, now you are mastering how to administer them.

Well done. Thank you for sharing your experience with us all that gives me lots of hope that we can be in control, even though it really shouldn’t be like this. I have just had to changed doctors and after 12 years as midnight_Voice has said ‘my B12 was snatched away’ without a second thought!

I cried 😭 I didn’t want to believe what was happening but then realised I was part of this wonderful forum and a member of PAS where I could find real support and understanding of what we go through.

HI, thats great. I bought the ampules a little while ago but havent had the courage to use them yet, not to mention I havent bought the needles yet (not sure what I should buy). I am glad I bought the ampules before the c19 as my doctors wont prescribe the injections to self medicate and wont let me go in and have them done as usual due to the current c19 issue which is understandable...
