Advice please

My GP is only willing to give me 1 shot per week for a month and then test blood again. I'm hoping I can persuade him to continue at once a week until I have improved, I know it's not the same as every other day but it's the best I'm going to get out of him! Just wondering if the folate will go down, will I need to top up. It is 8. ug (3-19) ?

Hi Cali25 are you in the UK?

Eating plenty of leafy green vegetables, sprouts, broccoli, spinach etc will give you a natural source of Folate. It can also be found fortified into many breakfast cereals

There is a complex interaction between folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance and Folic acid works closely with vitamin B12 in making red blood cells and helps iron function properly in the body.

You are not "deficient" in Folate but perhaps a word with your doctor or pharmacist will put your mind at ease and folic acid is readily available over the counter cheaply.

I'm not a medically trained person but have had P.A. for more than 45 years.

Thanks Clivealive, yes I'm in the UK. GP upped my ferritin to 3 x 210mg as its only going up slowly from 7ug to 28 ug over 6 months.

and 1 – Iron Ferrous Fumarate 210mg tablet for more years than I can remember but then I get my cyanocobamalin B12 injections every 3 weeks.
