Just 4 weeks ago i got my blood results back from medichecks for a full thyroid check and my B12 was 240, now less than a month later i have just had results back from GP, and it has gone up to 612 so really puzzled why it has hicked up so much in a short time frame, i have been on an anti inflammatory diet and only taking 1000ug supplements daily, could my lab test from medichecks be wrong

1000mcg is a very large supplement to be taking and is going to be the reason why the levels have gone up. Its the sort of level that is only necessary on a daily basis if you have an absorption problem. I realise that you have had problems due to ulcers but it doesn't look as if this has permanently affected your ability to absorb B12.

1000mcg is about a years worth of B12 for someone without an absorption problem. 240 wasn't necessarily a problem level anyway. Unless you are highly symptomatic of B12 deficiency (may be a bit difficult if thyroid not under control because of overlap), I'd suggest cutting back on the supplements or moving to something much nearer RDA. (2.5-5mcg, depending on whether you take UK or US recommendations)

ug is the same as mcg, ie micrograme = 1/1000000 of a g

Yes, sorry, I just realised that 1000iu is equivalent to 1 mg

maybe i could have a folate problem instead, was only 3.6 bottom level on lab test was 2.91 but have just started a supplement 400ug and my vitimin d was only 62 bottom level 50 and what gets under my skin is my surgery just will not take any notice of anything unless its out of range its like a car mechanic taking no notice of his car billowing blue smoke out of his exhaust when hes knows the pistons have worn out but still keeps running
