Any link to tailbone pain???

Iv had tailbone pain for 6 months. Just diagnosed with low folic acid levels. I'm also on thyroxine after having half my thyroid killed off.

Does anyone understand any links and in particular if tailbone pain sounds familiar to you?? It's all too co-incidental.

Hi Kimple123,

*What type of tailbone pain have you got ?

My type of tailbone pain was diagnosed because I said I had to shift from cheek to cheek to relieve my pain ? My doctor that there are two types of tailbone pain and that I would just have to learn to live with it as there was no cure.

Thankfully I cured and kept my tailbone pain at bay by upping my vitamin D3 to a higher dose, (I was found to be vitamin D deficient and given a maintenance dose of 1000iu D3.) I noticed the maintenance dose helped my tailbone pain for a few days, but then all pains came back again. Not sure lacking in vitamin D3 is linked to both types of tailbone pain. Interesting you already have a deficiency and thyroid problems, they often go hand in hand with low/deficient vitamin D.

Can you maybe ask for a vitamin D test ?

Hey thanks. Test just came back low folic acid/folate. Which I think are the B vits. Got 5mg for 8 weeks to take. Other results must have been ok!!! Tailbone is numb full ache which if sitting for while gets real sore. Like inflammation. Def no damage/injury. Interesting re vit D though! My thyroid test was normal. Right within range. I'm 40 next year and like you...totally not accepting an age thing!!!! Fit, healthy normal girl. In fact I'm hoping to try for 2nd baby!!!

Incidentally I'm waking real super early with body aches! Must be the vit deficiency!

Good you are getting yourself sorted with the B vits Kimple123 and your thyroid bloods are 'normal' before trying for another baby. All the best

Are you also on the thyroid UK forum on here too ? If so you will already know that 'normal thyroid bloods' can sometimes be NOT be 'normal' (Always good to have your thyroids at normal levels if trying for a baby as no doubt you also know :) )

Under treated, over treated thyroid, low/deficient vitamin b12, low/deficient vitamin D and low/deficient magnesium can all be causes of aches, no doubt there are more. Are you definately on enough thyroid medication ? Your bloods being 'in range' and being told you have 'normal' bloods, doesn't mean you don't have a deficiency, because being 'low in range' in some bloods can still cause problems too.

Have you popped your thyroid blood results up on either PAS or Thyroid Uk to double check your 'Normal' Thyroid bloods are really 'normal' ? (just a thought, though do ignore if you are already aware of 'Normal thyroid bloods.' :)

The best people to check a thyroid blood result are members on Thyroid UK, they are good at spotting thyroid problems a mile off. Sadly too many get overlooked for thyroid issues and told they are 'normal' when they feel far from it, best to double check your bloods, especially if you are trying for a baby.

I have had tailbone pain for 18 months. I couldn't sit up for 10 weeks it was so bad. Mine started with pain at the front of my tummy and a pulling down sensation. I thought I would lose bladder control. I also felt like my womb was shedding. They thought it was cancer but then I had a period ( sorry gents)

The pain went for a day or two then unexplicably shifted from the front to the low back. Spasms were so bad, worse than labour.

Then it became a nerve pain in the tailbone ( although I know we don't actually have a tailbone) that area. Burning pain like nothing I have ever had.

GP and a few others virtually told me I was mad, anxious, attention seeking..Some, even my Lupus Professor said it was a sprained spine..I did not sprain my spine. There was no trauma. There was a small burning above my groin for a week or so in the morning as I bent from the bed to get the alarm. This got suddenly worse. All hell broke loose and my body screamed emergency..I was walking to work at the time..

Long story short 18 months. I calmed it down with juicing and an extreme no carb diet. That took 6 months. I had to walk with a cane.

I can identify with the inflammation feeling. It seems to come on now after the period is due. No one will even look at me now. They are not interested as I refused Gabapentin and Amytryptiline. I wanted to know the cause of the pain.

I had considered Endo..Female GP looked at me sideways and said "Highly unlikely" That was it...
