No difference

I was diagnosed with Pernicious Anaemia about 6 months ago along with folate deficiency.

I finished my 3 months of folic acid a while back and had my loading doeses of B12 plus one more shot 7 weeks ago.

There is no noticeable change with me, I can't get an appointment with my GP for 2 weeks, sick and tired of this. Any advice?

As uncomfortable as it seems to wait, you are probably in a good place. go back to your gp, (as I'm assuming you arent taking any other form of folic or b12) to have any further tests done because your b12, folate level will be at a fairly low point.

Has your thyroid been checked too? It might be that you have to get that done privately to get a truer picture as the drs one is normally only the very basic unless they have reason to suspect otherwise. Also despite all this hot, sunny weather here, not everyone gets chance to be out in it for 15 minutes everyday, so could vitamin d deficiency be a possible? That can cause tiredness.

My own b12d seems to stem from now being diagnosed coeliac and i can say i do feel less tired by going gf but by no means is that the whole cure. If you suspect it could be due to the gluten in your foods Do Not change your diet until you get a coeliac screen done as it will possibly affect any results. As you have, in your original post, mentioned tummy type problems maybe your dr should be arranging for you to see a gastro consultant.

Hi Emsx

What frequency of B12 injections are you on and are you still supplementing with folic acid?

There is a complex interaction between folic acid, vitamin B12 and iron. A deficiency of one may be "masked" by excess of another so the three must always be in balance.

Folic acid is crucial for proper brain functioning and plays an important role in mental and emotional health and works closely with vitamin B12 in making red blood cells and helps iron function properly in the body.

I think it's most likely too early to notice improvement.

You must have had 6 loading doses in 2 weeks and 1 more 3 months after.

For most people 1 every 3 months is not enough. If you push your GP he will give you 1 every 2 months which unfortunately is still not enough for most people that's why a lot of people turn to self injecting.

Also depends on how low your B12 was and depends if you've got neurological symptoms, if you have then the frequency of injections should be much more (according to NICE guidelines).

Your B12, Folate, Iron and D3 should be at a good level as a difficiency in any one of these have similar symptoms.

Not what you're looking for?
