Yes, I had this before my GP agreed to increase my B12 injections to every six weeks. Do you have any other symptoms?

Hi MariLiz, i have had a very red ridged tongue, have hot flushes and two day headache and nausea before blisters appear and suspected the childhood illness hand foot and mouth which adults can get but it has been going on so long now. I have exhaustion but severe vitD deficiency (13) and have just completed a loading dose for that. I have patches of numbness on my body and a particularly unpleasant one to touch on my foot. Weakness, light-headedness, dizziness, mild palpitations, occasional rapid heartbeats, shortness of breath and memory loss but feel that some of these could be attributed to vitD status but I'm not sure. I know hand, foot and mouth is the coxsackie virus and my doc says, without examining me, sometimes these viruses can be prolonged but says my b12 level is fine. I know it is not when under 500. When you got the blisters did you have hot flushes and headache before they appeared?

I just felt generally unwell, as though I was sickening for something. Low B12 does cause your tongue and mouth to be sore and inflamed. My tongue was also swollen, and I found I was frequently biting it accidentally.

I'm prone to having migraine headaches anyway, so I probably wouldn't have noticed the headaches especially. I was getting night sweats though, which were particularly unpleasant.

Just because you have a level of 340 in your blood, doesn't mean all of that will reach your cells. In fact only about 20% of that will get to cells.

I do hope you can persuade your GP to agree to treat your B12. Have a look at the Pernicious Anaemia Society website for a full symptom list. Perhaps if you printed that and ticked all that applied to you he might give you the injections.

I've been biting my tongue too and inside my cheeks they are ridged and painful. Good idea, thank you for your time and my best wishes to you.

When you say your Vitamin d was 13 is that ng or nmol?

I see lots on here and other places but no one seems to clarify the measurements so it gets very confusing.

My vitamin d was 36.26nmol/l but that translates to 14.52ng/ml.

They said it was insufficient not deficient.

All very confusing and even more so when you feel to tired and rotten.

Good question Steap. It came back as severe deficiency 25OHVitD2 <5 nmol/L and 25OHVitD3 13 nmol/L.

Yes I have had them for years! I get them when I'm due my injection. When I was having 12 week then ten week injections I got them but now I'm on eight week injections they're not so bad.

I is so embarrassing because if I had anything with salt on, or bread , garlic or chips they would suddenly come up about two/three inches and grow until I burst them. I remember going to the Trafford centre with our grown up children for tea and I had to go into the toilets because my mouth was bleeding so badly. A lady thought I had been hit by someone in the mouth lol!

My daughter had started to get them now, she has PA too but because she's a nurse she can't always get her injection appointment when she's off work.

Hi! Paulaw22 Oh! gosh, that is really suffering. Do you get hot flushes and headaches before they erupt. I'm so glad you are suffering less now.

No, no warning just happens. I do have other illness which has been caused by having PA for many years before diagnosis.

Thank you for taking the time to respond and my very best wishes to you.

I used to get both flushes and chills. Headaches too. Things feel more stable with B12 now.

in reply toAllyson1

I'm hopeful my symptoms are to do with b12 def then and not prolonged hand, foot and mouth. I started b12 today, yay! Thank you Allyson1.

I have the hydroxycobalamin injections, but I believe some countries use the cyanocobalamin or methyl cobalamin. Injections are usually better than taking supplements. We often have difficulties absorbing B12 from our food, which is why we get low in the first place. So the digestive route works best for those who are vegan or vegetarian, and therefore not eating the high protein foods like meat, fish, eggs, to obtain B12 from their diet.
