B12 ampules: Hi all, I am trying to buy... - Pernicious Anaemi...
B12 ampules
I bought some methylcobalamin 1000mgc/ml strength in 0.5 ml ampoules over the counter when I was in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. They worked fine.
My regular cyanocobalamin 1ml of 1000 mcg/ml was on a weekly prescription and I had split it into two 0.5 ml injections to try to even out the roller coaster ride.
Methylcobalamin is more reactive and is used up faster in the body. Especially if you are deficient in B12 and can give either a rush or some pretty strong symptoms that mimic your regular symptoms.
What is the period of your current injections? You may want to use the methylcobalamin at half that period.
The methylcobalamin ampoules I got in Riyadh came in a paper wrapper to completely block out light. Methylcobalamin degrades much quicker than hydroxocobalamin or cyanocobalamin when exposed to UV light (fluorescent lights).
With the ampoules you need to inject the entire contents in one go and you can't split the dose like I do with my cyano vials with a rubber stopper on top.
It is the strength i.e. 1000 mcg/ml that is the important number. I've seen 100mcg/ml at a cheap price but it is not what you want.
If you haven't already, start a log book of all your symptoms and treat the jab as day zero each cycle. Symptoms from the jab usually repeat in sequence over 3-4 days after the jab.
Hi Gb57.
The ml refers to the volume of liquid the B12 is suspended in and mcg refers to the drug dosage so...
500mcg is equal to 0.5mg. The B12 dose most people take IM is 1mg - so if you are taking the usual standard dose, the you'd need two 500mcg ampoules (equivalent to 2 x 0.5mg) ampoules to get 1mg of B12.
(Note - some people inject with doses of 1.5mg or 5mg).
You'll need to look on your hydroxocobalamin ampoule (or the box they came in) to see what the actual B12 dose is in what you usually use.
The 1ml refers to the volume of liquid the B12 is suspended in but the actual B12 dose will be also be written somewhere, written in mg's. (I suspect it will probably be 1mg - the usual standard dose - but you'd need to check.
Just wondering if you're intentionally buying methylcobalamin instead of hydroxocobalamin?
It's often claimed that methylcobalamin is 'superior' or better than other forms of cobalamin. It's not (though some rod reccomend it for neurological symptoms). It's just different - and whilst some people find it works well for some of their symptoms, others find it does no good at all and they end up not using it ( fbirder is a prime example). It's very much an individual thing and if hydroxocobalamin is working well for you it might be that you'd want to stick with that (hydroxocobalamin coverts to both methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin during processing in the body).
Having said all that, some people do find that methylcobalamin (or, indeed, a combination of cobalamins) work better for them. So perhaps it might be a case of nothing ventured...nothing gained.
Here's a link to a paper that investigated the different cobalamin types:
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articl... (No Superior Forms of Cobalamin)
Also - if you haven't injected with methyl before, be aware that in rare circumstance anaphylactic shock can occur, so it'd need to be done under medical supervision and in a place where immediate medical attention could be obtained.
Good luck 👍
€37 for 10 ampoules!
I buy from goldpharma
Please be careful buying b12 online, some if the places selling it aren't for real. You might end up with anything or it might be diluted. Buy from a well known company or get in touch with pas an ask for their advice
