I have noticed that my B12 ampules are a few months out of date, will they still be effective?
I had a fall and brain injury in December and wonder if the extra fatigue is due to the injury.
Thank you

There's no simple answer, they might be, or they might not. I had a batch that lost its potency months before its date. I think it was stored incorrectly before I got it, as it was short date. Other people on here also had the same problems with the same batch.
But, people have also used out of date ampoules with no problem.
The only sure way to tell if your symptoms are caused by the B12 losing its potency is to buy a new batch and see if you feel better.
hello bethmoggie, I am sorry to hear of your obviously very nasty fall and brain injury, I do hope you are on feeling better and improving.
I have read many posts relating how stress physical and mental, and illness has caused fatigue. Ive also found this happens. So yes your injury would cause extra fatigue. Many, including myself, increase frequency of s.i.at such a time.
As for your ampoules o.o.date, well it varies . They should be alright if stored correctly. It also depends how many ampoules involved and frequency of injection. You may need to increase frequency to cover any slight loss of efficacy.
Basically you will not know until you try them, considering you are not well atm you might not wish to take that chance.
With best wishes x
I take repeated chest infections and I have discovered that when I am not well I can safely double the frequency of my jabs without any negative symptoms. . . . . Same amount just double the frequency. . . . . . As to out of date thing f they have been stored correctly they should be fine or possibly have lost a little of their usefulness but they generally dont go down the hill quickly . . . . Any problems along that line is most likely manufacture problems. . . . . . I know of people who keep ampoules in the car glove pocket which is often too warm and they say they see no difference. . . . . Like all these dates the manufacturer will have used a time frame more than suitable for the product. . . . . . To me this is all the more reason to store the bulk of ones stock in the fridge. . . . . . . . I have Cyno here and it states to refrigerate it. . . . I have never had methyl but I have read it requires chilled once prepared ie water added. . . . . Hydroxo everyone seems to keep it at room temp but chilling it is shown to do not harm either, , , , , ,
Hi bethmoggie,
I am dreadfully sorry to read of your fall and brain injury. Poor you. 😞
Yes, a brain injury can cause increased fatigue (on top of PA/B12D). There is a charity called Headway which you may already know about but others might not.

Apologies but this is their 32 page (I know it is long) Managing Fatigue information. Page 10 is about PACING.

With regards to ampules being out of date. I agree with Wheat and topazrat.
😘
Thank you for your reply, Headway are great to talk to. It took a while to persuade my family that I am not firing on all cylinders and that a vitamin pill would not solve the fatigue. I feel lazy, as I was so active. My physiotherapist has given me a stick to help.
Looks a bit difficult to get the usual make of ampules but German Amazon have alternatives.
I keep reading the headway page - the injury left me with memory loss, I couldn’t remember my daughter’s weddings last year. I’m hoping it will come back. Photos don’t help.
Looking forward to some sun and pottering in the garden.
Thank you for your kindness.

Elizabeth,
You have had a significant insult (medical speak) to not an arm or leg, nor your stomach but to your head. It is very precious and it does all these weird and wonderful things. We learn how to speak, to crawl as a baby, then walk, to hold a pen and write our name and how to hold a knife and fork. Yes, you can feel lazy but the brain and body really do need to heal. Being kind to it, relaxing is an art, the Central Nervous System loves doing ‘nothing’. Although, it is still busy, with blood pumping around, lungs inflating, keeping you warm.
At the moment, you may not recall certain things but that is ok. You will remember other things though. The sunshine on your face, going strawberry picking or a particular holiday. Those lovely moments and soon spring will come. Here are some snowdrops for you.
Best wishes
Concussions can cause fatigue. When I had really bad concussion symptoms, the fatigue was the worst on occasions when I had to use my brain for longer periods of time. Either working, reading, watching TV, or attempting to socialize. In the initial stages of a concussion, our brains need lots of rest to recover. But fatigue is also a symptom of not enough B12. It might not hurt to try taking it more often than you usually do for a little while to see if that helps. I hope you feel better soon!
I have short term memory loss from a concussion that has greatly improved. But I still have problems. I have some coping mechanisms. Some examples: I have a hook in the front hall where I hang up my keys so I don't lose them, I use google calendar to record things and it can be set up to send you e-mail reminders. I ask my physio person to record me doing the exercises they recommend using my phone so I can remember them. I have a list of everything I need to have when I am out skiing posted just inside my ski condo door. I park my car in the same place all the time at places like a shopping mall (choose a place on the edge of the mall that always has empty spots). You are not lazy. Your body needs more rest than usual for recovery.
