iron levels

for a while my iron levels have been 8 but have now dropped to 5. i take 210mg ferrous fumarate 3 times a day and have a reasonably good diet. can anyone tell me are my levels bad and if so what else can i do???

Hi...That is quite a large dosage of ferrous fumerate, presumably that has been prescribed by your GP.

Level sounds as though it may be low but can t really comment without knowing the range. Do you have this..

Yes prescribed by gp and not sure of the range myself.

The range for ferritin is usually quite large ie mine was 14 and the range was 15- 159. Probably your GP will test again when you have completed your course of ferrous fumerate but also a good idea to ask for a print out of blood test results and keep an eye on things yourself. You can always post them on here if you need any help with them and you are entitled to them under the data protection act.

Also taking vitamin C with it increases the absorption. And don't take with calcium or caffeine.
