endescopy
Hi Lucieb01. In a word...yes. I stopped PPI's having been on them for about seven years and had the same problem. It appears that once the acid suppression drugs are withdrawn, the stomach 'cranks-up' (not a medical term 😀) acid production - sort of goes into acid overdrive. Hence the increased pain and heartburn.
You could try taking Gaviscon (or another form of antacid) especially before bed. And eat small meals often, but avoid eating later than very early evening. And sleep with lots of pillows or with the top of the bed raised.
For some people, this settle down within a few weeks. For some it doesn't, as this obviously depends on what is causing the problem.
I'm just curious - were you asked to stop the PPI's or is this something you decided to do yourself?
It's probably worth mentioning that if you have pernicious anaemia, then you will have low stomach acid, which the PPI's will have made worse (by lowering your stomach acid even further). Not many GP's seem to know this so thought I'd mention it, just in case.
Good luck with the endoscopy (hope they're checking you for heliobactor pylori 😀) and please post again if you need any further help. 👍
Hi foggyme
yes iwas told by letter to stop 2weeks before the scope but I thought I would try now but I feel like taken them again but I won't I am on b12 & vitd tabs my b12 has gone up a bit but my vitd is still low and I still have symptoms
Just wanted you to know, that I have pernicious anemia also and I am on PPI but my stomach acid is actually higher than normal. Which makes absolutely no sense with the promiscuous anemia because of low acid. So there may be other reasons why this is happening. Thus the endoscope to find out what is going on in the stomach that is blocking the nutrients from coming into the body. In the meantime less stress more rest tons of water bananas for potassium hypnotism if that works for you it did for me anything that helps you feel better this is for you. I hope you feel better and I understand what it's like
Can you explain anything/everything about h-pylori (have gotten twice in 2016 & have to go next month for being retested again, the doctors think it's back again--only this time if it's back they said they would be putting me in the hospital to do all the different meds through the IV (because they believe the pills are not helping it heal or get rid of)...any advice...please & thanks
Hi Terri324. Sorry that you're still having problems...if you put your question up as a new post, more people will see and respond (as its six days old, it's way down the list and the only, people who will see it are people in this thread.
Sorry....just on way out to hospital appointment so can't think and reply just now.
Good luck
I tried going off my ppi but severe pain sets in but I took six tums yesterday and that helped. Also mylanta. But my specialist is having me atay on for now because my acid is sky high. They are going to try me on name brand protonix. Yes another ppi but until I have my scope I need to be mentally and physically under control. Believe it or not I went to a hypnotist. 75% of my stomach pain was taken away from one session. I am no this crazy only holistic person but I went to her before and for me it works! Three one hour sessions for $79!! Cheaper than the doctor and for me it helps immensely! I hope with my experience if I can help just one person I am grateful but I will fight this and win this battle with grace. If you need me. Private message me. I am a very understanding person and I will never use Scare Tactics because that only makes things worse just fax and I found out things that have helped me that may help you. I hope you get some answers and feel better soon
Hi Jackiekay

But my specialist is having me atay on for now because my acid is sky high
Has this actually been measured, or is it just an assumption?
