How to find out what's in it? Ask the nurse next time she gives you a jab. But if it's on the NHS then it's likely to contain B12, water, sodium chloride (salt) and acetic acid (vinegar).

It can take quite a while for the jabs to start working, especially if you've been very deficient for a long time.

All I can tell you is. That the stuff I get from the NHS contains: hydroxocobalamin, sodium chloride and sodium dihydrogen orthophosphate. The last thing is another acidity regulator"

The acetic acid is in there to ensure that the solution is balanced, both is acidity/basicity and osmotic strength. If either of those are out of balance en it can cause discomfort on injection.

Peripheral neuropathy shouldn't have any effect. I'm not sure that neuropathy in your upper thigh or bicep would count as peripheral.

It is not uncommon that it takes a while before you feel anything. It is also not uncommon for some symptoms to increase the first weeks. It's not really a side-effect, is a repair-effect. It took 15 injections for me to feel anything, and even that was really minor. Check if your folate level is high enough (or just take 400mcg that you can buy anywhere OTC) and check also the feritin (iron). If either is too low it will feel like the B12 is not doing anything.
