I see from your profile you also have a thyroid issue. Are you being optimally treated ? Do you have any recent results with ranges to share ? Happy to help
Sorry that you are still having problems with the legs.
See that you posted on TUK with low T3 - has that now been dealt with?
What does your GP say? If you haven't been back then I would certainly try mentioning it - guess this is all coming out of the loading shots - were they about 3 weeks ago? Are you still having loading shots every other day?
I have been referred to a thyroid specialist to sort issues there My thyroxine was upped to 125 about 2 mths ago - any coincidence re the legs?
I am currently on an injection every other day and having number 6 this morning - this on advise of specialist is to continue due to my legs - still no better!!
For one, after upping thyroxine levels should be checked after 6 weeks, so if that hasn't been done, ask to get that done asap. And put them on Thyroid forum for checking.
Re B12: I understand but really 6 injections is nothing with serious neurological symptoms. I know it's hard, but you have to give it more time. Remember that the deficiency has been there for years (and years), it takes time to recover. If the pain is very bad ask your GP for some pain-meds. There are a few options, in your other posts people have suggested some good ones.
Fortunately I tend not to have that problem any more. But I used to follow the exercises recommended to prevent DVT on long plane flights (and, being relatively poor and 195 cm tall, I am prone to it). Virgin have a nice page - virgin-atlantic.com/gb/en/t...
I've just read your messege about your legs, Im exactly the same at the moment and been like it for 4 weeks. May I ask what your thyroid levels are please? I recently stopped self injecting as havnt been able to afford to re order, all too much of a coincidence. My levels were just tested and are over 2000. I guess mine is at cell level. Thanks
How long ago were those tests done ? As PAS Admin mentioned you should be tested again 6 weeks after any increase. Your results suggest you are under-medicated. Your TSH needs to be 1 or under and the FT4 and FT3 in the upper part of their ranges. Every cell in your body needs T3 - so as your result is low in range - then it is possible you do not have enough to go around.
When and how do you take your medication ? At least one hour before food - or if you take it at night then leave two hours after food before your dose.
I've been taking it with my breakfast and also for 2 mths with iron as dr didn't tell me I shouldn't take together!! When I picked up last prescription the pharmacist told me
Tyroxin was upped in June and no bloods as yet but booked for 2 wks time Will tyroxin treat t4 & t3?
Thyroxine is T4 - which is a storage hormone. This has to convert into the ACTIVE thyroid hormone T3. Conversion will be impaired if your iron levels are low - along with Folate - B12 - VitD.
You need to take your iron at least 4 hours away from the Thyroxine. Also take VitC to aid absorption of iron.
Your poor results indicated to me you had an absorption issues or were not taking your pills correctly. Lets hope the results have improved this time.
It should be taken well before breakfast (!!!) not at the same time, and yes, keep away from iron (take that one at lunch or dinner even) I'm sure the thyroid forum can help you better with all this and I'm sure they have lots of info on what's what and how to take it, when etc. Blood should have been done 2 weeks ago, ridicilous..but then again, I'm never surprised anymore by the lack of knowlegde of many GP's...
Really not sure what to suggest with the not being able to move.
On the balance I'd suggest wearing trainers if you aren't doing so already - these actually provide your body with a much bigger range of input on what is happening at the end of your legs when signals aren't particularly strong. If you have to negotiate/go down stairs then don't be embarrassed if you find it easier to sit on your bottom and go down that way ... and sometimes turning round and doing the reverse of going up can work. My problems were balance were purely when I was on my feet - and I was actually much happier on a bicycle ... and that might also have helped with the not being able to move as it was more about keeping the motion going than trying to start it off which can be extremely difficult.
If my B12 gets below astronomic then I can find that I 'grind to a halt' - happened to me yesterday - along with brain fog and being a little hypersensitive to noise - not ideal when you are playing bowls and even less so when you are the captain :). What works for me is getting the B12 levels back up again ... but routine yesterday was totally disrupted and the nasal spray I carry around with me had just run out. All but had the same today - but managed to get the last drops out of a spray I keep in the office at work ... and I've now put a replacement in my bag to take in tomorrow and replaced the one I carry around with me. All I could do yesterday was start waddling and use my weight to keep me going forward. Several years ago now and before I knew anything about B12 I would occasionally run out of juice - had to get someone to push me up the stairs to bed. You have my greatest sympathies.
