Do you know the cause of your B12 deficiency?

Do you have PA (Pernicious Anaemia)?

Are you a member of the PAS? They can sometimes intervene on behalf of members.

"Could It Be b12" by Sally pacholok and JJ. Stuart. very comprehensive book about b12 deficiency.

Do you have any neurological symptoms? See links to symptoms lists below.

My understanding is that people with B12 deficiency with neuro symptoms are supposed to get maintenance doses every 2 months.

1) page 8 "BCSH Cobalamin and Folate Guidelines" has details of recommended UK treatment.

I also found page 29, a diagnosis flowchart, useful as it shows the recommended process a GP should go through with someone they suspect has B12 deficiency.

See Managements section in above link for treatment info based on BNF (British National Formulary) Chapter 9 Section 1.2

Yes I do have PA. I am also type 2 diabetic and lost my taste for food. It does not help me when I dont enjoy food.

Did you notice anything - any improvement in any of your symptoms at all? I would have expected something by this point - even if it only lasts a few hours after the shot.

Also, did you have loading shots and notice any improvement with those?

Do you know if there is more going on than B12? Do you know what your thyroid is doing? There is a lot of overlap between the symptoms of B12 deficiency and numerous other conditions ... and it is perfectly possible for more than one condition to be affecting your health.

Just seen your response to sleepybunny. There is considerable overlap between symptoms of diabetes and B12 - do you know if your blood sugar levels are properly under control at the moment?

How certain are you that you really do have type 2 diabetes - there are a couple of forms of diabetes that have late onset and are often mistaken for type 2 (insulin resistant) but actually respond to different drugs because they are closer to type 1 (impaired insulin production) - eg MODY and LADA

A strong family history of diabetes amongst close relatives could point to MODY (which runs in my family - its a dominant gene so if you inherit the gene you develop the diabetes. The variant that runs in my family has onset between 30 and 45. I didn't inherit the gene but both my mother and brother have it.)

You can find out more about MODY variants and LADA here

Agree it is important but don't think it helps on this particular thread which is a particular query about efficacy of 3 monthly injections

If you were as insulting to the GP as you were in the PM you sent me then I wouldn't be surprised if he refused to ever see you again.

Really? In that case your account must have been hacked, because I still have the email notification of a message from your account. The message that I reported to admin.

Buddyboy1. Just wanted to say so sorry that your first post appears to have been 'hijacked' by Keslam21. This is not something that usually happens and is less than helpful to new people.

Please don't let this put you off being here...it's a very good place to come to for help and advice. People here really put themselves out to help each other.

Sleepybunny and Gambit have already given some good links and information so I hope this helps you to start getting the information you need to help you with your health problems.

Please post again if you need more help and advice and let us know how you get on.

Take care 😀
